Two new matches announced for TLC

With rumors flying around that Braun Strowman’s elbow injury could keep him out past TLC, WWE seemingly set up a backup plan of a six-man tag with Baron Corbin enlisting Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley as allies. Those two have already been embroiled in issues with Finn Balor and Elias, respectively.

Well, some seemingly good news came out today in regards to Strowman and this announcement only supports that:

Yes, that would be a match announcement for McIntyre vs. Balor and Lashley vs. Elias at the upcoming TLC pay-per-view scheduled for Sun., Dec. 16, 2018, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. Will the babyfaces finally get theirs after being taken out by the heels on Raw? We shall see.

Here’s the updated match card:

  • Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin in a TLC match
  • Daniel Bryan (c) vs. AJ Styles for the WWE championship
  • Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nia Jax for the Raw women’s championship
  • Becky Lynch (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka in a TLC match for the SmackDown women’s championship
  • Seth Rollins (c) vs. Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental championship
  • Mixed Match Challenge Final

The Man explains how you too can be The Man

Coming soon to WWE Network… ‘Becky: Fix my life’

If you didn’t click on this because, “Ugh, again with the Becky Lynch?” – you’re not reading this and are about to miss out on some solid advice. I won’t go so far as to say better than the platitudes John Cena tweets out, but it’s a little more actionable. You can start working on this right now, without meditating on its deeper meaning first.

If you did click on this because, “Ugh, again with the Becky Lynch?” – thank you for your patronage! Please continue directly to the comments where you can type, “Ugh, again with the Becky Lynch?” Who am I kidding, you went right there. If you are still reading, hang on for another few seconds and at least get a quality self-help pointer before you let us all know how you’re dissatisfied with the high levels of Badlass in your wrestling blog diet.

If you clicked because you can’t get enough Becky Lynch and/or you want a practical self-confidence boosting tip, let’s get to it.

During an interview with Hollywood Life promoting The Marine 6: Close Quarters (what up, fellow Mariners?!?!?), The Man was asked how someone could get the self-esteem necessary to be The Man:

“That confidence? You know, the thing of it is, it’s always an inside job, right? It doesn’t come overnight. This is something that I’ve been working on for a long time, and why this works so well is because we’ve seen me not have confidence. We’ve seen me persevere. We’ve seen every obstacle being thrown my way and finding a way to deal with it.

But, it’s all about believing in yourself, and I always say, you know, you’re the only person that lives in your head. So, you can walk around telling yourself how great you are all day, walk around telling yourself how bad you are all day, like, it seems a lot better to live in a place where you’re saying you’re great, you know? So, I think you just gotta constantly work on believing in yourself, and believing that you’re enough. Have faith that you’ve got everything that it takes to make it. If you put the work in? Of course, you do.”

Sometimes easier said then done, I know. But Becky believes in you and, goshdarnit, I do too.

Now go out there and be The Man.

Jurina Matsui at Wrestle Kingdom

Imagine getting into pro-wrestling for the first time and witnessing a ****** match? That was Jurina Matsui, ace of Japanese group SKE48. At the end of Omega/Okada you can see three AKB idols, 2 of them no reaction and Jurina on the right crying and with a towel.

Fast forward, I decided to do my research because I find her insanely attractive. Seems she has been filming for TV Asahi, a wrestling drama. She is the lead as Hollywood Jurina. So she gets deeper into the pro wrestling world, constantly appearing at shows like AJPW, BOSJ, etc. Taguchi nominated her as an honorary Taguchi Japan member and she even got her own shirt.

So she got named as ambassador for NJPW and as flower girl for WK12 opening the show. Later she's on commentary with Chono and Milano.

I can definitely see her getting involved after her AKB career is over, whether it's as a joshi (risky because she has history of health issues). In that case, she'd be bigger than Io Shirai by drawing power, and WWE would take notice LOL. JK. I can see her doing commentary like Miki Motoi does. Considering her health it's much easier

What do you think she's doing at WK13?

Since talking didn’t work, Ronda & Nia will try wrestling on this week’s Raw

Their promo segment last Monday (Nov. 26) was a major trainwreck that stood out as bad even on an epically bad show. It contained way too much smiling from Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey seeming to forget a line before inadvertantly admitting Becky Lynch has changed the history of the world and everyone said “hashtag Facebreaker” too much.

To avoid a repeat of that scene while still building toward their Women’s title fight at TLC on Dec. 16 in San Jose, WWE is going to that old stand-by the tag team match for this upcoming Raw. The company has announced that in Houston on Dec. 3, Rousey will team with Natalya to face Jax and her tag partner, Tamina.

Seeing as last week’s segment ended with The Riott Squad jumping Natty on behalf of Nia, and Raw multi-woman matches don’t really end with clean finishes that often these days, I wouldn’t count on getting a clear winner here.

But, hey. At least they won’t be cutting promos.

EVOLVE Will ‘No Longer Consider Booking’ Impact Wrestling Talent

EVOLVE has announced they’ll no longer book Impact talent due to the recent mixup with LAX.

As we previously reported, Ortiz and Santana were set to compete in EVOLVE next month in two matches involving NXT stars The Street Profits. However, the duo were pulled from the event by Impact management shortly after it was announced.

The detailed explanation from EVOLVE states:

EVOLVE officials were contacted by LAX and informed that they were needed for something else that weekend. No other explanation was given. Impact Wrestling didn’t contact EVOLVE officials and left it up to LAX. There is no heat on LAX as WWN understands the situation they were put in. EVOLVE officials had told LAX that the plan was to have matches with EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits of Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins that weekend. EVOLVE was informed that LAX would not be able to lose in those matches. In order to avoid any political issues, EVOLVE made one night a triple threat match and the other night a six man tag. This would give the fans the LAX vs. Street Profits matches they wanted, while protecting all parties politically. Unfortunately, Impact Wrestling waited until the matches were announced and then pulled the talent the next day. This all could have easily been avoided by not allowing LAX to take the dates in the first place. EVOLVE will no longer consider booking Impact Wrestling contracted talent moving forward. EVOLVE officials are currently working on a replacement and will have news early next week. We apologize for the lineup change, but assure you that EVOLVE will produce something special on for EVOLVE 117 December 15th in Queens, NY and EVOLVE 118 on December 16th in Deer Park, NY. Thank you for your support.

For what it’s worth, Impact sources claim senior officials in the company were not aware of the booking until it was made public via social media. It also sounds like management believes EVOLVE should’ve handled a booking of that magnitude through the company and not the wrestlers.

Santana tweeted about the situation saying, “It would’ve definitely been cool, especially for the fans. But wrestling has proven to us once again that there’s still much more work that needs to be done, in order for all of us us to truly enjoy the endless possibilities.”

Raw GM isn’t an elected position, but Matt Hardy’s running for it

Much to the consternation of my dear friend Rev. Claire Elizabeth, Baron Corbin started calling himself the “General Manager Elect” of Raw this past Monday.

The three hours of television WWE cranked out on Nov. 26 was such a steaming pile of crap, this little bit of nonsense went largely overlooked. It’s a catchy enough phrase, I guess. It certainly sounds better than “Acting General Manager who is really sure he’s going to defeat the injured opponent his boss is making him pro wrestle in a match with furniture and hardware so he can drop the ‘Acting’ bit off his title, Baron Corbin”.

It seemed to confuse some folks though, starting with Matt Hardy, who began campaigning for the position on Twitter:

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Hardy quickly picked up his first endorsement:

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Matt also won the support of Mike Rome. And when all this social media activity caught the eye of someone at Titan Towers, WWE gave the aspiring authority figure some free advertising. The Broken Baby-Kisser seems to be turning that into a write-in effort for his Woken Warriors:

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Now, after the last [checks calendar]… infinity of authority figure drama on Monday nights, I’d definitely be on-board with having a General Manager whose grasp of reality is tenuous at best. Maybe that should start with his winning a non-existent election?

If they want to go with less dadaist booking, they could use the popular speculation regarding Bray Wyatt as a replacement for Braun Strowman against Baron Corbin at TLC. The Eater of Worlds wins, gives one former tag partner the GM-ship and the other a shot at Brock Lesnar’s Universal title. Wham bam thank you ma’am.

Who knows? We’ll drive ourselves battier than Brother Nero trying to figure out where the Raw brain trust is headed.

So, in summation, Vote Woken Matt. And while you’re at it, stop with this “Elect” nonsense.

Vampiro’s deeply personal reason for continuing to wrestle, even if it sends him home in a wheelchair

After wrestling Crazzy Steve in a casket match at WrestleCade 2018 this past weekend, Vampiro flew back to Mexico and posted an image of himself in a wheelchair.

View this post on Instagram

I am arriving in Mexico City after WRESTLE CADE 2018 . Part of my condition , from this neck and back injury is that if I fly too often my body totally gives out and I lose all control of my legs and arms and hands . Basically I become like a vegetable . I literally can not walk. And so today I am in a wheelchair…Last night I was dying before the match I could not walk and I really was in pain. But the transformation when I put on my paint and the black leather and the cheering of the fans… I would rather die than let someone down. I am a hard person to deal with in real life . But I am a pro all day and I won’t ever quit. Fuck that . So no I have one more flight and I have no clue how I will board the plane let alone get home. All I can say is it was totally worth it and I would do it again right now if I had the chance! PMA all ways . I need to set an example for@my daughter and for the people who believe in me. plus I needed the money for my daughters plane ticket for Christmas! It’s only pain. And as one of my hero’s said … it’s only Rock and roll but I Ike it! i’m not looking for sympathy that’s not what this is about, it’s all about being in a fight, getting hit heading back twice as hard, life is not easy, and you can’t quit every time I rode block comes along, you know what I mean? My point of view is tomorrow I will be in the gym with or without this motherfucking wheelchair, I just wanted to say thank you to all the fans for all the support last night it was fun, but I can do better, and I guarantee you that I will!

A post shared by vampiro (@vampirovudu) on

//www.instagram.com/embed.js

Vampiro explained that flying takes a toll on his body due to his neck and back injuries. When he flies too often, his body gives out and he loses control of his legs, arms, and hands.

Vampiro wrote that he would do it again if he had the chance. Even though Vampiro is in a wheelchair, his smile tells me his words are true.

The good news is that Vampiro didn’t appear to have any problems walking around during Wednesday’s AAA Lucha Capital tournament.

You might be wondering why a 51 year old Vampiro continues to put his body through punishment. An unrelated interview in Spanish with Grupo REFORMA sheds light on that.

The following is my translation of Vampiro’s words in Spanish.

“I wasn’t a star of wrestling. I was an image that stuck. I had much in common with many youngsters, so my image and the scandals outside wrestling is why I am famous. I was never a good wrestler. I wanted people to say Vampiro was at the top of wrestling, but I wasn’t a good wrestler. I was a person that came from the world of music and knew how to move the people.”

Being famous was the worst moment of his life, because it was false fame. He didn’t earn it. It wasn’t something real. His actual personality was totally opposite of the character he portrayed. This caused him to escape using drugs.

Vampiro suffered an overdose. In that moment, he saw an angel that told him God was going to give a gift but Vampiro needed to show he deserves it. He tried to clean up his act and become a normal person. He then met the future mother of his child and thought that lady was supposed to be the gift from God. It turned out that the daughter they had was actually the gift.

“When I had my daughter in my hands for the first time, I understood why I’m here on this world. Not for Vampiro, not for music, not for gangs, not for any of those things. My reason for being was to take care of this girl. That was my mission.”

Vampiro changed his way of being because his daughter needs a positive role model in her life. She can learn that with sacrifice, positive energy, passion, and love she can achieve many things. Being rich is not economic. It is what is in your soul.

Seeing his daughter grow up, Vampiro now understands why he needs to wrestle as the Vampiro character. He is fighting for all the fans that have difficulties achieving their dreams and have issues in life. Vampiro is the same as they are. He also has problems. He has to wrestle, because he doesn’t know anything else. He has to support his daughter until she can fly solo. That is why Vampiro exists.

The riveting 25 minute Spanish interview also hits on topics such as how Vampiro entered the world of lucha libre, why he doesn’t watch wrestling, being inspired by Great Muta, life on the streets before lucha libre, passion for teaching self-defense, and working as a bodyguard for Milli Vanilli.

Possibly good, definitely spoiler-y report about Monday’s Raw

It’s almost certainly good for the Superstar involved. Will it result in a better episode, though?

We know from past experience that WWE likes to exaggerate Braun Strowman’s injuries so his comebacks seem more amazing. It’s also possible the Monster Among Men has a Cena-esque healing ability. Either way, Strowman Instagrammed a story less than 24 hours after his latest surgery to show he was rehabbing his elbow, so it doesn’t seem likely he’ll be out of action for too long.

In fact, PWInsider says current plans call for Braun to appear on Raw from Houston next Monday (Dec. 3). There’s no word on what he’ll be doing, but with a TLC match against Baron Corbin scheduled for the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) on Dec. 16, his presence should allow WWE to move forward with that story – either by confirming he’ll take part or turning it into a tag contest (which Strowman could then take part in or just “captain”).

The episode we got last week gave us a pre-taped pre-op interview with Braun, but otherwise just stalled for time on the brand’s main event program. It was also one of the worst episodes of Raw anyone could recall.

Having Braun back in any capacity has to be better than that. Right?

Kimber Lee Clarifies Feeling Behind Comparing Slavery to Killing Animals

Former NXT wrestler Abbey Laith — aka Kimber Lee — has clarified her feelings behind sharing a meme this week which implied killing animals is just as wrong as slavery.

For clarification, here’s what Kimber shared on Instagram yesterday:

The reaction to this post was not met with a ton of positivity.

Kimber attempted to clarify her opinion on Friday and tweeted: “Here’s the thing. It doesn’t matter what I say because you’re going to believe what you want. I said don’t stop fighting for a cause because society makes fun of you. It used some big examples of things that were HORRIBLY WRONG but you could have been ridiculed for opposing because they were considered legal 150 years ago. I would never belittle the suffering those people went through. I said don’t stop fighting because someday people will realize that brutally murdering animals is just as wrong.”

“I know in my heart my intentions,” she continued. “I know my post was meant to empower and inspire people to stand up when something is wrong and fight against injustice. But one person with a little bit of fame didn’t actually read it, they saw a buzz word and tried to accuse me.”

Adding, “I am sorry if this caused anyone offense. I’m sorry that my intentions were misread. But I will never be sorry for telling people to fight for what they believe in. Peace and love to all.”

Tribute to the Troops returns, but maybe not to television

Given how many events WWE was cramming into their 2018 fall schedule, I probably wasn’t alone in wondering if maybe Tribute to the Troops would be happening at all this year.

The company removed any doubt yesterday when they announced the 16th annual edition of the show honoring America’s military servicepeople. The details came a little later than usual (last year’s came the day after Survivor Series; 2016’s was announced in October) – and they still don’t mention when or if next Tuesday’s version of TttT will be televised. The 2017 show was broadcast as part of USA Network’s “WWE Holiday Week”, which also featured the broadcast debut of NXT, a week and a half after taping.

Last year also included Superstars from Raw and SmackDown. The announcement doesn’t mention who will be performing at Fort Hood in Texas next week, but the blue brand has their usual Tuesday night live TV in Austin. That’s only a little more than an hour away by car, and there’s no mention of when the in-ring portions of Tribute will go down. So it’s possible some SmackDown stars could do both, but we can’t tell from the announcement.

Speaking of which, here’s that:

“The 16th annual WWE Tribute to the Troops will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Fort Hood, Texas. This is the second time Fort Hood has hosted The Most Patriotic Show of the Year, first serving as host in 2010.

While in Fort Hood, Superstars will spend time giving back to military personnel and their families stationed on base. Activities include a Be a STAR bullying prevention rally, as well as hospital visits and military outreach initiatives at various installations across the base.

WWE Tribute to the Troops began in 2003 to honor our servicemen and women and their families. In the tradition of Bob Hope, WWE brings together the best of sports, entertainment and pop culture with celebrity appearances and performances from music’s most popular acts in what is considered TV’s most patriotic and heartwarming show of the year.”

Normally, I’d ask if folks were excited for the show, but unless you’re stationed at Fort Hood I don’t even know if you’ll ever see it. The Starrcade special was said to be a hit for the Network, so maybe WWE puts it there eventually if USA isn’t interested this year, for whatever reason?

Guess I’ll ask… are you hoping to be able to see some of Tribute to the Troops ‘18 at some point?

Backstage details on David Arquette vs. Nick Gage

David Arquette’s quick trip to the world of hardcore wrestling gained a lot of attention just a few weekends ago as his light tube filled match with Nick Gage drifted in and out of being a shoot.

As wild as it may have looked to those watching in the arena or those watching from home, it was even more wild for “the boys” backstage.

Ethan Page, co-host of Cageside Seats’ Bitter Boys Club podcast, wrestled D’Lo Brown on the card. He explained the action that went down at GCW: Joey Janela’s L.A. Confidential during this week’s episode of the show.

“(Arquette) was super cool all day,” Page said. “He was like, ‘What’s up Ethan, nice to meet you!’ During the day he was planning his match with Nick Gage and they were saying it was going to be great. It was his idea to have light tubes and stuff like that. I’m 99% sure they went to lunch the day before and discussed all the nonsense.

“The match is happening and I’m listening to the crowd. Matt Riddle and Chris Hero are there and everyone’s hanging out and having a good time. All of a sudden, Nick Gage comes up — this is the funniest moment of the entire day. All this craziness is happening, Nick Gage is about to get light tubes to smash David Arquette in the head. As he’s walking up the entrance/hallway to get the light tubes, the door opens to the locker room and Nick Gage is angry, everyone is chanting ‘G-C-Dub, G-C-Dub’ and Nick Gage looks up and locks eyes with Hero and says, ‘Oh hi, Chris Hero!’”

Things went from funny to exciting to bizarre in a hurry.

“Nick Gage goes out, gets the light tubes, they’re messing each other up,” Page said. “All of a sudden, Arquette is getting chants, he’s getting over because he’s having the craziest movie star match. Did you see the moment Gage is cutting Arquette’s forehead and as he’s bringing his arm up, he gets bucked off by Arquette and Arquette freaks out and grabs him by the throat? That was for sure real. Everything after that was the craziest thing I’ve seen in wrestling.

“He was (going to leave). He thought he was going to shoot on him, then he freaked out and when he freaked out he legitimately got his neck sliced. He thinks he’s about to die of blood loss or something. So, he’s freaking out, he leaves the ring, for some reason gets back in and lays down because he realizes the match isn’t over. He’s like, ‘pin me’ and Nick Gage is like, ‘nah’ and goes to get a giant thing of light tubes. He hits him in the back and they don’t break. When Nick Gage is telling me about this after the show, he’s like, ‘You’re in my world now, you’ve gotta trust me and go with it.’”

The moments where Arquette’s desire to continue the match as planned had gained a lot of traction on social media and websites.

They also were enough to get Matt Riddle to not care if he was caught on camera.

“Arquette wants the match to be done, Nick Gage gets a bundle of tubes and tries to break it over his back,” Page said. “Weirdly, it doesn’t break, Arquette freaks out and grabs a chair that still has light tubes on it, swings it, smokes him and then tries to do some kind of armbar but Nick Gage shoot judo throws him like a dope police officer and just pins him 1,2,3. He literally beat him with a hiptoss.

“Matt Riddle runs out, he’s like, ‘I don’t care if I get caught on camera for this shit.’ When Arquette left the ring, everyone started freaking out, ‘Oh my god, they’re shooting, what’s going on, what’s going on?’”

Cody Rhodes wins Twitter fight with JBL with one punch

Cody Rhodes is a pop culture afficionado, so hopefully he’d get the reference I’m attempting with the above headline. And no, you young whippersnappers, I’m not talking about the anime One Punch Man (although it’s great), but how Blue Beetle reacted to Batman shutting down a ranting Guy Gardner in 1987’s Justice League #5.

Okay, now that I’ve outed myself as an old nerd, here’s why I’m waxing nostalgic for the funny books of my youth: while watching his Dallas Cowboys upset the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football last night (Nov. 30), JBL launched into what seems to have been an unprompted tirade about how he could kick Cody (and Dusty) Rhodes’ ass…

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

This doesn’t include one he deleted last night which point blank said “I’d kill @CodyRhodes. Please.”

What’s a second-generation star coming off a legendary year and rumored to be about to announce his own company (which makes the timing of this all the more curious, considering JBL’s part-time job with WWE, which sometimes seems to include being an unofficial spokeperson for the company) to say when his phone’s blowing up because a former co-worker is tagging him repeatedly in a tweetstorm?

Anyone else kinda hoping for a screwjob at Wrestle Kingdom?

I've always wondered if another legit screwjob would ever happen again in wrestling, and just it occurred to me with all these AEW rumors that there may be an alternate universe where Tanahashi puts on the Cloverleaf and Red Shoes calls for the bell. Kenny screwed Kenny.

Matches to watch in the Tag League

Hey guys, sorry if this gets asked all the time:

I’ve been meaning to get caught up on the tag league and I want to be caught up by the end, what are the key matches that I should watch? Anything good?

I’ve been avoiding reading anything about it so I’m going in blind but don’t exactly want to try to catch up on every single match.

AAA Roundup: Jarrett’s bloody Monterrey Massacre, Guerra de Titanes full card

The AAA Roundup is back with some catching up to do. Let’s look at the Gira de Conquista shows from Monterrey. It featured Jeff Jarrett and Dr. Wagner Jr. in a bloodbath, a tag team championship match, and a luchador stapling another’s head.

But first, there is some major news to cover. Guerra de Titanes will take place on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 6pm Mexico City time (7pm ET). It will most likely be available live on Twitch for free.

Lucha Libre AAA

Guerra de Titanes snuck up on me. It hasn’t been too long since AAA’s last major show. One thing to note is that Fenix is currently injured and will not be participating in the ring at that card. No backup plan has been announced yet.

Tune in this weekend for full coverage.

Gira de Conquista

Part 1 and Part 2 from Monterrey are right after Triplemania XXVI in the TV timeline. To refresh your memory on the necessary details from Triplemania, Dr. Wagner Jr. dressed as La Parka to screw Jeff Jarrett out of the Mega Championship, Lady Shani defeated Faby Apache in mask vs hair, and Hijo del Fantasma lost his mask in Poker de Ases.

Massacre in Monterrey

To begin with, if you are confused why Jeff Jarrett has hair, no, he did not drink Dimoxinil (Homer Simpson’s hair tonic). This was taped prior to the hair vs hair match between Jeff Jarrett and Dr. Wagner Jr. at Héroes Inmortales XII.

Dr. Wagner Jr. (aka Rey Wagner) came to the ring for a promo. He promised the Mexican fans that he would take Jeff Jarrett’s scummy hair for all of them.

Cue Jeff Jarrett. He stomped to the ring accompanied by Hijo del Fantasma as interpreter. Wagner asked why Fantasma was there. Fantasma slayed him with the response. “We know you can’t communicate with someone who speaks a different language. You are the king of ignorance.” It was a hilarious line in Spanish as a play on Rey Wagner to Rey Ignorante. Wagner’s facial reactions added to the moment.

Wagner and Jarrett went face to face, removed some clothes, and were ready to fight. They backed away. Fantasma asked Jarrett what he thought of Wagner. “Basura!” Trash. When asked about Monterrey and the fans, Jarrett replied, “Mas basura!” More trash.

Fantasma threatened Wagner about his actions at Triplemania. Wagner said to take it step by step. First, blondie (Jarrett) in the feminine guerita. Next, the chocolate girl (Fantasma), which plays on Fantasma calling himself the chocolate champ. Wagner asked Fantasma which side he is on. With Mexico or with chickens (Jarrett)?

Fantasma killed Wagner again on the mic. He said there is only one Mexico. Let’s make that clear. But, the rudo de rudo (Fantasma) is in front of Wagner. If Wagner wants Fantasma’s hair, he needs to fix his credibility problem with the fans. Fantasma basically called Wagner a chump not on Fantasma’s level.

The main event of Part 1 in Monterrey was Taurus, Killer Kross, and Jeff Jarrett against Murder Clown, La Parka, and Dr. Wagner Jr. The match begins at the 56 minute mark or watch the video below.

Kross wrestled in new trunks. They were MMA-style tight shorts. Jarrett did his strut and made the nose hold, you stink taunt to the crowd. La Parka wore some cheap gold gladiator outfit that fell off when he hopped onto the apron and entered the ring through the ropes. Wagner wore a La Parka mask to rub salt in the wound of how Jarrett lost the AAA Mega Championship. Wagner then chased Jarrett around the ring.

Ding, ding, ding. Time for the match. Jarrett vs Murder Clown to start. Jarrett dodged any advancing and ran away. Taurus dropkicked Murder from behind for the first moment of actual action. The highlight of the bull vs clown superhoss showdown was a monkey flip by Murder.

Jarrett was being a humorous shitface heel. Whenever Murder pointed to tag in Wagner, Jarrett would run over, stand in between, and plead Murder not to tag. Jarrett convinced Murder to tag in La Parka instead. Jarrett tried to celebrate that minor victory with La Parka by high-fiving him. La Parka responded by punching Jarrett. Then, La Parka made the big tag.

Wagner was in the ring one-on-one with Jarrett. Would they finally duke it out? No, not yet. Taurus and Kross smashed Wagner. Jarrett would get on top for a flurry of fists. Jarrett tossed Wagner over the fan rail. Jarrett had something in his hand to punch Wagner.

Blood!

Wagner was opened up. Twice and thrice more from Jarrett. Doble Jota hid the foreign object in his knee pad. Meanwhile, Taurus and Kross were handling Murder Clown and La Parka.

Eventually, the action spilled into the ring. Kross slapped a chokehold on Wagner. Jarrett added his patented leg lock at the same time. What was left for Taurus to do? Bite Wagner’s fingers, of course. Hahahaha. So silly.

The tide turned when Wagner evaded a running Taurus into the corner. Wagner executed knee whips on both Kross and Jarrett. La Parka connected on a suicide dive to Taurus. Murder Clown hit a tope onto Taurus and Kross.

Jarrett and Wagner stood toe to toe in a frenzied bout of fisticuffs. The referee, Hijo de Tirantes, was making enthusiastic punching motions in the background as he was caught up in the excitement. Wagner got the upper hand with a Wagner Driver, but Kross distracted the ref. That allowed Jarrett time for two low blows.

Jarrett positioned Wagner for his finisher, but Wagner fell backward instead of forward. One more try. Boom. Both went forward for the Stroke. 1, 2, 3. Rudos win.

Jarrett unloaded more punches after the match. Taurus took out La Parka with a Codebreaker. Kross hit an extremely impressive Saito suplex on Murder Clown. The bad guys stood tall as Jarrett strutted to close the show.

That fight definitely lived up to its name as the Massacre in Monterrey. Wagner was a bloody mess. The crimson on Jarrett was actually from Wagner.

Lucha Libre AAA

If you like Jeff Jarrett’s heel hijinks, then you will probably thoroughly enjoy this.

Match of Maximum Awesomeness

The opener (at 9:00) for Part 2 from Monterrey was a four-way between Belial, Draztik Boy, Arez, and Ultimo Maldito. Belial’s shorts looked weird. I’m guessing he is either naturally gifted or a practitioner of trunk stuffing.

This match was not polished nor technical, however, the pace was a mile a minute with tons of amazing moves. There were also several variations on standard maneuvers. I highly recommend watching the bout.

Highlights include a quadruple submission chain and Belial executing a standing leg submission on one opponent then German suplexing a different opponent. One crazy sequence began with Belial sitting on Draztik Boy’s shoulders, who was sitting on the top turnbuckle. Arez came in for a super duper hurricanrana to Belial. Draztik Boy jumped from the middle rope to perform a Mexican Destroyer on Arez. Ultimo Maldito finished it off with a flying missile dropkick to Draztik Boy. Plenty more chaos followed.

For the finish, Draztik Boy went wild. He suicide dived onto Ultimo Maldito, then ran across the ring to the other side for another suicide dive onto Arez. Draztik Boy went back into the ring for a unique slam to pin Belial for the win.

Tag Team Championship Match

The champs of Texano and Rey Escorpion had a four-way fight against Jack Evans and Teddy Hart, Aerostar and Drago, and Maximo and Mamba. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a title bout on Gira de Conquista.

This was a pretty solid match (at 29:00 in Part 2). Highlights include a corkscrew crossbody by Aerostar, tandem flying by the exoticos, and Aerostar overshooting a tope crashing into the crowd and spilling precious beer.

For the finish, Teddy Hart was the sacrifice. Rey Escorpion folded him up for a package piledriver, then Texano cracked his back out of a fireman’s carry position. The three count was on Teddy.

Afterward, the exoticos continued their feud with the Mercenarios. Texano and Rey Escorpion left them beaten, bloodied, and bull roped.

The rest of the action:

There were different flag/valet ladies. I guess the usual crew didn’t make it up to Monterrey. They must have used local talent. I wonder who’s job it is to do scouting.

There were also new graphics throughout the show. I liked it.

Faby Apache defeated Lady Shani

The match (at 5:00 in Part 1) was a singles rematch from Triplemania. Faby Apache wore a bandana to cover her freshly bald head.

Faby started with a handshake then a lightning quick German suplex to set the tone. Faby controlled the pace until Lady Shani snatched Faby’s bandana off her head. That led to Taurus charging the ring, but Shani held her own with an arm drag, hurricanrana, and a dropkick to send him away.

Solid action followed with several pin exchanges. For the finish, Faby pushed Shani into running the ropes so Taurus could grab Shani’s foot. That distraction allowed Faby to crush Shani with a bridging German suplex for the winning pin.

After the bout, Faby and Taurus pummeled Shani and removed her mask. I guess this will be a never-ending feud. I understand keeping it hot, but I would have hoped they dropped the mask tomfoolery for now.

Poder del Norte defeated Joe Lider, Hijo del Vikingo, & Hijo de LA Park

That was a weird pairing for the tecnicos in this match (at 19:00 in Part 1). Joe Lider entered with a hand stapler. Yes, it would be used.

Lucha Libre AAA

Lider controlled early and went to tag in Hijo de LA Park. Park turned his back. Hijo del Vikingo sprang to action with a springboard crossbody. Park eventually entered the ring and handled himself well.

Poder del Norte used their teamwork advantage often. Everyone got their spots in, like Park with a suicide dive, Vikingo with a springboard corkscrew and a Phoenix splash. Poder used chairs for an especially brutal slingshot into chair whack to Vikingo. Lider stapled two rudos.

For the finish of the hectic contest, Park smashed Vikingo in the back with a chair for no reason. Vikingo was ripe for the picking. Carta Brava Jr. hit a rung-hung flying stomp, Park hit a shoulder breaker, and Tito Santana finished with a super senton bomb. Pin and win.

Mamba had a Yo Soy segment. I normally don’t cover these background videos, but a couple relevant things stuck out. Lucha Underground is a promotion Mamba would like to work for one day. Mamba speaks English very well due to studying in the USA. Being able to communicate in English is a big bonus. Whether teaming or feuding with XO Lishus or the same with Pimpinela Escarlata, I think Mamba would fit right in at the Temple. They could even create a whole new character. The options are wide open.

Mamba also tells a funny story about being tentative to become an exotico. Mamba didn’t know anything about makeup, such as where to buy it. Little by little, Mamba learned the exotico style.

Hijo del Fantasma defeated Psycho Clown and LA Park

The main event of Part 2 (at 52:00 in Part 2) was three-way action. LA Park entered with a championship belt that I didn’t recognize.

Hijo del Fantasma and Psycho Clown teamed up against LA Park. I’m not sure why. They brawled into the crowd. Psycho introduced weapons. He smashed Park with a chair, did a conchairto to Park’s balls, and broke a broomstick over Park’s back. It took about eight minutes until Park came alive with a suicide dive to Fantasma. Psycho followed with a suicide dive to Park.

It was only a matter of time until Psycho and Fantasma fought each other. Psycho cleaned Fantasma’s clock with a springboard crossbody, a flying crossbody, a discus clothesline, and a scoop slam. Psycho and Park went at with Park prevailing on a big spear. Fantasma then slammed Park.

Psycho went wild by whipping everyone in the ring, including the referee. Psycho then pulled the ref’s face down to his crotch. Highlights for the rest of the bout include an outside-in splash by Psycho, Sliced Bread by Psycho, and a running frog splash by Fantasma.

For the finish, Park pulled off Psycho’s mask. Fantasma low blow kicked Park for the win. Fantasma’s Mercenarios mates came out after the match for more beatdowns. Fantasma pulled of Park’s mask. The rudos throat slashed and raised their fists to the air.

Gira de Conquista from Monterrey was a very entertaining episode. There was lots of variety in match types instead of pure trios action. A variety of styles too. High-flying, heavy-hitting, and hardcore.

Jeff Jarrett stole the show, as he often does when present in AAA. I’ve been looking forward to the Massacre in Monterrey ever since I first saw the bloody images. The spectacle, I can’t really call it a match, did not disappoint. Three cheers for Double J!

Which was your favorite match from Monterrey? Who stood out in your eye?

Excited for Wrestle Kingdom 13… but I really don’t want to see anymore rematches.

The fresh/fresh-ish matchups of Omega/Tanahashi, Kushida/Ishimori and Okada/White are all very appealing.

But the card already features the Junior Tag Three Way, Jericho/Naito and ZSJ/Ishii, all of which have been done already in the past year (ZSJ and Ishii fought on Mania weekend).

With the remaining matches NJPW could end up doing Cody/Juice II, a straight Goto/Ibushi rematch after WTL, and Evil and SANADA vs G.O.D, which may not be a straight rematch but it feels like one.

Instead, i wanna see Cody vs Suzuki, Ospreay vs Ibushi and maybe Best Friends getting a tag title shot. More rematches will slow the momentum for the event, rather than picking it up.

Impact Wrestling results, review, & video: After the bell

Impact Wrestling returned late last night (Nov. 29) from Sam’s Town casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Let’s jump right to it.

The Lucha Brothers def. Rich Swann & Willie Mack

After the match, LAX (sans Konnan) walk out. They put over the match they just watched. They say that they’ve beaten so many teams in this company. Now they want to fight the Lucha Brothers and issue the challenge for Homecoming. The Bros accept.

LAX enters the clubhouse to find a very angry Konnan. He tells him he’s had this problem before. He’s seen his friends have “dream matches” that hurt friendships and ruined relationships. He tells them that since they already made the announcement, he knows what he has to do and leaves.

They opened the show with an indie work rate tag match between the Lucha Bros and Swann/Mack. It was so high work rate that it was barely a tag match. Just dudes hitting their s***. The moves are exciting, but I like a little more “tag” in my tag matches. But that’s just preference.

I more enjoyed the post match angle. LAX coming out without Konnan, outwardly defying him after he told them not to issue the challenge to the Lucha Bros, was the intriguing part here. They wanted the match so they issued the challenge.

And Konnan was NOT happy about it. Name dropping his friends turning on each other because of competition was a great addition to the angle. It’s not just “dream match,” which would be pretty damn good alone. But this extra wrinkle to it of Konnan worrying this will turn friends into enemies gives fans something more to pay attention to beside just the cool spots they’ll perform during a match between two babyface teams.

Jordynne Grace def. Katarina via Bear Hug submission

Much like their first match up, Katarina got in plenty of offense this go around. In fact, she was the more impressive early on, matching up against a woman who is much more powerful. It was only in the last minute that Grace really showed off her offense before picking up the win via bear hug submission. (A submission that looked very convincing. Jordynne hooked it in deep and Katarina sold it very well. A bear hug could be boring looking. This was not that.)

Jordynne has a bright future in the Knockouts division and matches against Taya Valkyrie and Tessa Blanchard are already exciting to think about. On the other side of the ring, I hope that Katarina finds a place in the division as well because she’s too talented to be without direction. Now that she’s no longer in a weird love triangle with Grado and Joe Hendry (what ever happened to those guys?), they can feature her in the division as well.

Taya Valkyrie def. Ray Lyn via submission

Tessa Blanchard attacks Taya post match. The referee, who told her backstage prior she has to stop putting her hands on him, punches him in the face and then puts a choke hold on him.

She won’t let go! A bunch of referees and Scott D’Amore can’t stop her. Gail Kim has to pull her off. When Tessa is staring down Gail, Taya spears her!

Once again, it’s all about the post match angle, which was really good.

But first, the enhancement match: It was enjoyable! Ray Lyn got to show off a little attitude and in ring prowess before pissing off Taya. This led to an angry stomp and a new submission. It was a good way to use the squash.

Now onto that hot post match angle.

Tessa’s all-out assault on the referee was superb. This guy warned her backstage, and she didn’t give a single damn. She just owned the poor man. And none of the other referees nor Scott D’Amore could do jack about it. They were completely powerless to stop her.

Finally, it was Gail Kim (who works as a producer) who had to rip her off the referee. While it led to a spear from Taya, putting the spotlight back on the impending match pretty quickly, the tease of Gail Kim was there.

Yes, Gail is retired. But she retired by winning the title and then relinquished that. She never went out putting over younger talent. Now the division is loaded with it. So if this leads to a match where she puts over Tessa Blanchard, I’m all for it.

If that doesn’t happen, this was still a cool moment. If it’s planting a seed for much later, then awesome.

Zachary Wentz and Dezmond Xavier def. Chris Bay & Mike Sydal

The Rascalz are a fun team. There’s no doubt about that. My question is where are they going to fit into Impact. I suppose the tag scene would make the most sense, but in this promotion, if you’re not in the title picture, you’re not really in the tag scene.

Given there’s three of them and oVe isn’t doing anything any more, I can see a feud coming there. Angry oVe versus a bunch of stoners could be an interesting dynamic.

Tommy Dreamer initially def. Eli Drake by count out (on purpose).

The match is started under a no DQ stip, which doesn’t cover count outs but whatevs.

Eli Drake def. Tommy Dreamer when he put a chair around Tommy’s head and hit it with an oar.

After the match, Eli walks backstage and finds a note addressed to him with some balloons. He reads it and seems upset.

I’ve enjoyed Tommy Dreamer’s use in Impact, but not here.

Tonight, it started with yet another Dreamer promo, this one backstage, insulting Drake by calling him a millennial and focusing on that theme. Can you get any less creative? Dreamer is a pretty good promo, but these ones against Drake have been pretty bad.

Then Eli got himself counted out in their match, so they make it a no-DQ bout, which technically leaves a count out on the table. Eli didn’t go that route. Instead he decided to take part of one of the plodding hardcore match that Dreamer is known for.

The finish was correct, though Dreamer kicking out of Eli’s finish was unnecessary. But the rest didn’t work. I’m watching this fully in agreement with the heel. Here’s a young guy who has to deal with relics of the past who come out and run their mouth about “kids today.” Of course I’m going to agree with Drake. But the way it’s written, it’s not one of the “Choose your side” things. They want you to cheer against Drake.

Sure there are people who watch Impact who aren’t millennials and may appreciate the promo. (Hell, we’ve seen the ratings for people between 18 – 49 years old, so we know there aren’t many millennials watching when this airs.) But why not tell a story that’s a bit less lazy?

Hopefully this chapter is over and done with.

Other points of interest:

  • Killer Kross approached Johnny Impact, now that Johnny has to face Cage, trying to get him to enlist his services. Once again, Johnny said no to any assistance. But this an interesting addition to the title match.
  • Eddie Edwards was all drugged up in a psychiatric institute. First his wife Alisha visited, telling him that if she didn’t commit him, Moose would have had him arrested. If there’s been one consistent in all this, it’s that Alisha is not a good actor. Moose then visited him, pretty much taunting him.
  • KM and Fallah Bahh lost all their money at the casino in a matter of minutes. Then Scarlett Bordeaux told them they’re at the bottom of her list. Rough day.

Pros of the Show:

  • The post match women’s angle
  • The Konnan factor in the tag match

Cons of the Show:

  • The entire Drake/Dreamer thing

Much of the show was pretty good. Some strong angles. Unfortunately, the main event angle (which was a quarter of the show) brought it down.

Grade: B-

It feels crazy that I’ve almost finished my first season of New Japan already. How long has everyone else been watching?

Originally curious by the hype about AJ Styles/Okada/Tanahashi and eventually, I always had an eye on New Japan. Fast forward to the first G1 Special, and how ‘good’ (just going my Star ratings) the matches had been throughout that year, I was buzzing. What is this New Japan? What’s Bullet Club actually about?

I ended up going through their website , Wikipedia pages and seeing how their streamer shows, pretty enticing. I didn’t have a way to get NJPWWorld and I had to beg and plead to just get the Network. Admittedly I went into Dailymotion and watched a few recent matches that were leading to Wrestle Kingdom, they were really fun.

All of a sudden though, Jericho. What? What’s he doing? Why’s he on another show?

Jericho Vs Omega was announced, and I just had to watch it. Haven’t regretted it since.

Whats the story behind your New Japan fandom? How long has it been? Who’s been your favourite?

Report: After concussion Lynch is cleared to compete

In pro wrestling, you just never really know.

On Tuesday night, SmackDown women’s champion Becky Lynch made appearances in the opening and closing segments of the show. From the eye test and the fact she was booked into a title match with Charlotte Flair and Asuka, most would assume The Man is cleared to return to in-ring competition.

It was just two short weeks ago when Lynch suffered a concussion off a Nia Jax punch gone wrong. Following her injury Lynch was pulled from her Survivor Series match with Ronda Rousey and has yet to get physical on-screen.

From the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required and encouraged) Dave Meltzer explains why Lynch was cleared from her injury and why WWE made her first match back a triple threat.

“The three-way women’s title match will be the first women’s TLC match. While some would question putting Lynch in such a match coming off a significant concussion that has kept her out of action for several weeks, in WWE, the rule of thumb is that if you are cleared, you are cleared. The three-way makes sense because it gives them ways out of the finish without having to compromise Lynch or Flair, and without any of the three having to do a job, given that Flair likely first, and later Lynch, are slated for high profile matches early next year with Ronda Rousey.”

The TLC pay-per-view (PPV) takes place on Sun., Dec. 16, 2018, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Coming off a head injury, do you think the WWE made the right call in having Lynch defend her title versus both Flair and Asuka? Does this news feed into speculation that The Man may drop the title at TLC?

Jimmy Yang’s 15-Year Old Daughter Makes Wrestling Debut in Japan (VIDEO)

Former WCW team The Jung Dragons had a quasi-reunion in Japan this week which featured the wrestling debut of Jimmy Yang’s 15-year-old daughter.

It all went down at Tokyo Dream 2018’s Wednesday Nitro (yes, the name may sound similar) during a match pitting Yang and Kaz Hayashi against Shannon Moore and NOSAWA.

Jimmy tells us at one point in the match he fell to the outside of the ring and his daughter Jazzy Yang jumped on the apron to take the hot tag for him. As you can see in the video below, she then hit a few elbows on Shannon (as well as flying head scissors).

“Tokyo dream was an amazing dream that became true,” Jimmy Yang tells Pro Wrestling Sheet. “The first time that I came to Japan was in 2002 and I instantly fell in love with the country and their people. World Tag League Nov 29 (CM punk)

What a show! I was starting to lose interest in tag league a bit up until now. Highlights of the night were: Dick and Balls vs GoD, Team Suzuki vs Team ZSJ and of course that killer main event. The thing that caught my eye in the main event however was Okada’s chaos shirt, Chicago flag design CM punk style. This could just be a shirt he had saved from All In and decided to use it here but I would find that very strange. Could this be NJPW hinting at something to come?? Possibly New Years Dash?

The Young Bucks talk more about All Elite Wrestling promo

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire and sometimes Super Kicks.

Appearing on Petey Williams’ podcast Petey’s Wrestling Perspective, Matt and Nick Jackson addressed the latest rumors that they have filed a trademark for a new pro wrestling promotion called ‘All Elite Wrestling’.

“We’re in a situation now where we don’t really know what we’re going to do but we want to protect ourselves in case we decide to do something. We want to be proactive and get ahead of this thing. Cody said we’re all sticking together, we’re going to do this thing as an unit. So whatever we do decide to do, we are absolutely going to do this as a team. We’re going to do this as The Elite.”

Nick would go on to add

“We have offers on the table, hell I’ll say it, from every major company in the world. We haven’t said no, really, to anything. So we’re just keeping our options open and protecting ourselves at the same time.”

Starting a pro wrestling promotion from the ground up would be a massive undertaking, but maybe, just maybe The Young Bucks and the rest of The Elite are ambitious enough to do it.

If you had to guess, where do you see Matt and Nick Jackson wrestling the majority their matches in 2019?

Cinder Block Throwing Wrestler Promoted for Event in Grossest Way Possible

The wrestler bad person who hospitalized someone after throwing a cinder block at his opponent’s head during a match is now being promoted by a company looking to profit off the incident.

Arena Juarez La Aficion is promoting an event in Juarez with Angel o Demonio this weekend and the advertisements make light of the cinder block-throw (seen above).

As we previously reported, Cuervo wasn’t looking when the cinder block was thrown at the back of his head. He was then rushed to a hospital and it was determined he had blood clots in his brain. Cuervo underwent surgery to have them removed and has since been discharged from the hospital.

Angel o Demonio is additionally featured in a Facebook video cutting a promo to hype the event. According to a translator, the wrestler refers to himself as “The King of Concrete” in the clip.

AAA Lucha Capital recap & review: Vampiro vs. Konnan

Week 5 of AAA’s Lucha Capital tournament continued with Stage 2. The matches this week were picked by Vampiro and Konnan. It featured a rematch of ladies, a spaceman vs a clown, a hamburger boy vs an exotico, and darkness vs goldness.

Before we get to the recap, you can watch the full two hour show for free on AAA’s Facebook page or skip through to the matches. You won’t be missing anything important if you just want the wrestling. Each bout was more or less ten minutes in duration.

Five solid matches. Angelikal vs Averno (at 22:00) and Lady Shani vs Lady Maravilla (at 39:00) were enjoyable. I think Aerostar vs Pagano (at 52:00) was my favorite of the evening. Niño Hamburguesa vs Maximo (at 1:17:00) was comedy with lucha libre moves. Pentagon Jr. vs Golden Magic (at 1:35:00) lived up to the main event slot.

On to the show…

The episode opened with the band jamming. Vampiro and La Griega were joined by Bernardo Guzman, who replaced the vacationing Jose Manuel Guillen.

Vampiro did a little house cleaning about last week’s matchups. He informed us that Murder Clown’s win against Samoano will not count, and Killer Kross will be going to the wild card round instead of being able to earn a second win toward the finale. Vampiro also criticized Kross for partnering with Scarlett Bordeaux in a one-on-one tournament. That didn’t make much sense, since there is nothing stopping Bordeaux being ringside to support Kross.

Australian Suicide and Arturo “El Rudo” Rivera returned to chat with fans on Facebook.

Konnan was present as well. He did commentary duties for the first half, and Vampiro filled in on the second half. They played into their rivalry by having each one pick a luchador for the matches. It took about twenty minutes until the first bout began, but the pace was flying by after that.

The live crowd was a decent size. The peak viewership was 2,800 by my count. All of the episodes each have over 100,000 total views.

Averno defeated Angelikal

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

This was a bonus bout that had no relevance to the tournament. Vampiro picked Angelikal, while Konnan chose Averno.

The match started a little slow with an extended feeling out, but the pace picked up to make it nice. They looked out of breath for some reason. I generally don’t see those two huffing and puffing.

Highlights include a corkscrew over the ropes by Angelikal to the outside, a powerbomb toss onto the apron by Averno, a springboard corkscrew to the inside by Angelikal, and a Spanish Fly by Angelikal.

For the finish, the two luchadores were fighting up in the turnbuckles. Averno punched Angelikal, then Averno hooked his opponent into a double underhook facebuster off the middle rope. Pin and win.

Lady Shani defeated Lady Maravilla

Vampiro chose Lady Maravilla, and Konnan picked Lady Shani. It was actually a rematch (I believe unintentional) from Stage 1. This bout was better from what I remember of their first encounter.

The two luchadoras were more grounded than the rest of the fights. Highlights include a Northern Lights suplex by Shani and a belly-to-back style suplex by Maravilla.

For the finish, Maravilla went high-risk, Shani grabbed her hands and flipped Maravilla into a sitdown slam off the top turnbuckle. Imagine a tag team move where one steps up on the other’s shoulders, except Shani brought Maravilla over the top for a slam instead. Shani used a bridging pin for victory. Lady Shani got the sweep to prove she is superior.

Pagano defeated Aerostar

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Konnan chose Aerostar, while Vampiro picked his favorite, Pagano. Without a clown, there is no party.

I was pretty excited when this bout was made. It is the type of tecnico vs tecnico match you only get in tournaments. The fight lived up to expectations.

Pagano had the size and power advantage. Highlights include a springboard splash by Aerostar, a suicide dive by Aerostar, a flying leg drop by Pagano, an outside to inside springboard splash by Aerostar, Aerostar being fancy on the ropes before executing a backcracker, and a running powerbomb/backcracker combo into the corner by Pagano.

For the finish, Aerostar was still stunned by that combo. Pagano hoisted Aerostar up to bounce him off the ropes on a suplex. 1, 2, 3 for Pagano.

Halftime was back at the arm wrestling table. The special guest this week was Blue Demon Jr. His opponent was no problem. Blue Demon let that dude tire himself out, but Blue Demon probably could have won whenever he wanted. Blue Demon was itching for more action with a request to do it left-handed. Request denied.

Maximo defeated Niño Hamburguesa

Vampiro went with Niño Hamburguesa, while Konnan chose the charismatic Maximo.

Maximo and La Griega goofed around prior to the bell ringing. Maximo said she was envious, stole her mic, then challenged her to take it back. La Griega busted out a kung fu stance.

The match itself was silly yet serious. Highlights include a flying crossbody by Maximo off the apron, Maximo failing to slam Niño Hamburguesa, and two bowling ball splats by Niño Hamburguesa.

The finish was a smooch-fest. Maximo used his agility and rhythm. First was a front kiss. Second, Maximo grabbed Hamburguesa to dip himself and plant a kiss. Third, Maximo grabbed Hamburguesa’s hair from behind to bend him backwards for another kiss. That led to a roll-up pin to win.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Fenix came out for an interview at the announce table. He was in a wheelchair. That must be one heck of a groin injury. Fenix is out of the tournament. He stuck around for commentary of the main event. Fenix must be studying old-school promos. He said, “Here at Pinche Gringo BBQ,” a handful of times.

Pentagon Jr. defeated Golden Magic

There was no pretense of choosing sides this time, since only two luchadores remained for the evening. This was Golden Magic’s second main event of the tournament. Fenix introduced Pentagon as the best luchador on the planet and his brother chulo.

Pentagon began with tons of Cero Miedo hand signs to pump up the crowd. Golden Magic had enough and attacked with a tope con hilo. Highlights include a corkscrew by Golden Magic to the outside, a super hurricanrana by Golden Magic, an apron Mexican Destroyer by Pentagon, and a flying double stomp by Pentagon.

For the finish, Golden Magic missed a 360 splash. Pentagon made the most of the opportunity by breaking Golden Magic’s arm. A package piledriver followed to finish the match.

Pentagon may have tweaked Golden Magic’s neck on the piledriver. They brought out a stretcher to take him away. It looked legit rather than part of a story. Golden Magic might have have broken his nose too, since there was a little bit of bleeding. Pentagon went over to raise Golden Magic’s arm as a show of sportsmanship. Golden Magic either sold his ‘broken arm’ or was in real pain when it was lifted.

All the winners gathered in the ring for selfies, as per usual.

Status check

Two wins gets a luchador into the finale. One win sends them to the wild card round.

I believe Vampiro ruled that Killer Kross forfeited his match last week in essence, so he will be going to the wild card. Murder Clown’s win against Samoano didn’t count. I’m not sure where that leaves Murder. He is either eliminated or will get another match next week.

  • Advanced to the finale: Lady Shani, Pagano, Pentagon Junior
  • Advanced to Week 7 Wild Card: Aerostar, Drago, Hijo del Vikingo, Keyra, Killer Kross (?), Mascarita Sagrada, Maximo, Vanilla
  • Eliminated: Fenix (injury), Golden Magic, Lady Maravilla, Niño Hamburguesa, Puma King

Week 5 of AAA’s Lucha Capital tournament was enjoyable. The main event was the only match where the winner was obvious. There was no way that Golden Magic was going to defeat Pentagon Jr. The unpredictability for the other bouts enhanced the viewing experience.

I will usually prefer a pre-announced match lineup, but I thought this week was handled well by having Vampiro and Konnan pick the competitors. In case anyone was wondering, Konnan’s choices were 3-1. He owns Vampiro. They didn’t really bicker as they do in the TV storylines. Vampiro had a couple of snide comments, but Konnan played it cool. For the most part, the Lucha Capital tournament has been separate from ongoing beefs.

Which match was your favorite from Week 5? Are there any eliminated luchadores that you would like to see get another chance? What are the odds that the math works out so that the wild card flows seamlessly into the finale in terms of the correct number of luchadores?

XFL to Unveil Eight Cities Participating in 2020 Season

It’s been months since there were any substantial updates on the XFL, but that changes next week when the 8 cities participating in the 2020 season are unveiled.

“The wait is almost over,” the football organization tweeted on Thursday. “This coming Wednesday, Dec. 5, we unveil our eight cities and the venues we will play in for our inaugural season in 2020.”

In case you somehow missed it, Vince McMahon announced back in January that he was once again attempting to launch a football league.

The only location known to be of interest for the league at this point is Orlando. WWE’s Senior Vice President of Special Events John Saboor reportedly contacted Orlando’s executive director of venues about the prospect of putting a team in Camping World Stadium.

That same article mentioned it might be difficult to land a team in Orlando, however, because Charlie Ebersol’s league Alliance of American Football — which kicks off one year before the XFL does — has already confirmed they will have a team in Orlando.

Wednesday’s announcement will be streamed live on XFL.com.

The Young Bucks Address All Elite Wrestling Trademark Filings (AUDIO)

The Young Bucks say recent trademark filings related to All Elite Wrestling were done in effort to keep the group’s options open next year and protect themselves at the same time.

Nick and Matt Jackson are guests on the upcoming episode of Petey’s Wrestling Perspective Podcast with co-host Dennis Farrell and the two brothers didn’t shy away from talking about the filings in an exclusive clip given to Pro Wrestling Sheet.

Matt says the group all discussed the possibility of doing a follow-up to All In immediately after the successful event in Chicago. Everyone involved agreed that they’d have to do another at some point. “We’re in a situation now where we don’t exactly know what we’re going to do,” Matt explained. “But we do want to protect ourselves in case we decide to do something.

In case you missed it, multiple trademarks were filed this month which seem to indicate future plans for events called Double or Nothing and All Out. The address listed on the docs indicates the group is working with the billionaire Khan family, who own the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to sources, Cody and the Bucks are leading the charge behind the scenes on this possible new venture for once their ROH deals expire. As we previously reported, we’ve been told Jim Ross and Chris Jericho would only be involved on a talent level should any promotion get off the ground.

Jim Ross talked about this in a roundabout way on his latest podcast. “I’ve been rumored to be in every role in this company and what you find out is eye-rolling,” Ross said unhappily.

“At one point it’s Jericho and me, which I thought ‘that’s really stupid.’ Me and Jericho are gonna spend all the money we made over the years to get into the wrestling business. ‘Nah, you crazy? The legendary announcer then discussed with guest Dave Meltzer how a promotion like All Elite Wrestling would need a TV deal with a major cable or broadcast network to be successful.

Nick Jackson talked further about the future of The Elite during the interview with Petey Williams and said, “We have offers on the table from every major company in the world.” Matt additionally noted that they also have investors who want to work with the group.

“We haven’t said no, really, to anything,” Nick added. “So we’re just keeping our options open and protecting ourselves at the same time.”

NXT stars booked for indie show a week before TakeOver: Phoenix

The pro wrestling world just continues to get smaller.

From NXT UK to Mississauga, Ontario, Canada some indie wrestling fans are about to get a taste of British Strong Style. For the five year anniversary show of Canadian indie fed Destiny Wrestling, none other than Pete Dunne will headline the show. The longtime NXT UK champion will put his Destiny world championship on the line versus interim champion Josh Alexander.

In the co-main event, former NXT UK and tag champion Tyler Brate will go heads up versus Aiden Prince.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The face of NXT’s UK brand, and world champion for over 500 days, Dunne was last seen teaming up with the War Raiders and Ricochet in the main event of NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Scheduled for just eight days after NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool and less than a week before NXT TakeOver: Phoenix, Dunne is setting himself up for a very busy January. Even though we’ve seen plenty of NXT stars make cameos on the indie scene over the past years, its still cool to see WWE rubber stamping these one off appearances.

Drake Maverick is still mocking Bobby Roode by peeing on stuff

That song really does make anything better (glorious).

If nothing else, Drake Maverick is truly out here living his gimmick every day of the week. Maverick was given lemons by WWE creative and has turn them into….never mind.

For fans who thought Maverick and WWE were going to let his new gimmick die a slow, painful death, you are sorely mistaken. After peeing on Bobby Roode’s robe so AOP could retain their Raw tag titles, Maverick is doubling down on taunting him.

Dubbed ‘Glorious P-Bomb 2’ here is Maverick peeing while mocking Roode using his own ‘Glorious Domination’ entrance music.

How long can WWE and Maverick work peeing on stuff as his primary character trait?

Now he’ll never turn heel, John Cena wins Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

LOL Cena wins.

Today (Nov. 29) Sports Illustrated announced that WWE star John Cena will be awarded the 2018 Muhammad Ali Legacy Award in honor of his work as a philanthropist.

“From his unparalleled work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to his support for a wide range of causes ranging from activism for military families to cancer research, John has made personal outreach and generosity of time and spirit his calling cards,” said Sports Illustrated Executive Editor Stephen Cannella. “He might just be the most charitable person in sports, and his dedication to philanthropy richly reflects the spirit of the Ali Legacy Award.”

Past winners of the award include Colin Kaepernick, Jack Nicklaus, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown and Magic Johnson.

Cena spoke on being named the recipient of the award.

“I am truly thrilled to receive Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award,” Cena said. “Ali’s commitment to helping others, his dedication to the sport and his generous spirit are incomparable and he was a role model to us all. To be linked with him in any way is an honor that means so much to me.”

When we last heard from Cena he was done filming his movie with Jackie Chan in China and was moving back stateside to promote Bumblebee which comes to theaters next month. WWE also confirmed that the Cena will be wrestling at house shows and three TV events at the end of December and the first two weeks of January.

With two feature films in his back pocket, it looks like Cena’s schedule for early 2019 is opening up a bit. The 2019 Royal Rumble kicks off the road to WretsleMania 35 on Sun., Jan. 27. Assuming John Cena works the event, how would you book the next few months for the former Face That Runs the Place?

Becky buries Charlotte with a classic Simpsons reference

This is peak Becky Lynch. Remember when The Simpsons was good? The Man does.

We always knew Lynch had a way with puns but ever since Lynch adopted her “The Man” persona her meme game has gone to another level. Courtesy of Lynch’s latest Instagram story we have Charlotte Flair devolving into infamous The Simpsons character Frank Grimes.

The Flair-Grimes comparison almost feels too perfect and really hits on the fact that The Queen has altered a few of her character traits since Survivor Series.

@IAmCharlesChase

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

After being called a “Bootleg Becky” by the SmackDown women’s champion this past Tuesday night, it will be interesting to see if Flair tries to respond to Lynch’s latest verbal assault.

It was only yesterday when Lynch was covering up WWE plot holes through her Twitter page. Now we have Lynch teaching young people about famous Simpsons’ episodes from the 1990s.

What other classic Simpsons references can Becky Lynch work into future feuds?

Natalya delivers Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart’s eulogy

If you need a good cry today here you go.

It has been over three months since the unexpected passing of WWE legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. On last night’s (Nov. 28) episode of Total Divas, the show covered Natalya’s reaction to the death of her father.

It was uncomfortable and at times it felt like we shouldn’t be watching this intimate family moment but it was all very real. For anyone who has every lost a loved one you could relate to the struggle Natalya was going through.

One of the more powerful, and emotional, moments of the show was when Natalya delivered a beautiful eulogy for her dad.

Rest in peace Anvil.

The battle for brand supremacy heats up in this week’s ratings

The return of The Man, a bad Raw and some other holiday week factors brought the blue brand as closer to eclipsing its Monday night counterpart. SmackDown’s audience was 2,264,000 people on Nov. 27 – only a roughly 4% drop off from the red brand’s 2.37 million average the night before.

It was also an increase of more than 100K viewers from SmackDown’s Nov. 20 broadcast. Despite being tenth among cable originals on the night (behind History Channel’s Curse of Oak Island, and the usual array of MSNBC & Fox News political talk), WWE’s numbers on Tuesday did benefit from a lot of reruns on the broadcast networks, as CBS and the like phoned it in on the post-holiday week.

It’s in the ratings numbers where things get interesting. SmackDown won the night with a big increase from the week prior, clocking in with a .81 share of the overall 18 – 49 demographic. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that not only did a significantly greater number of women in that age range watch SmackDown over Raw (38.4%), but Monday night’s huge third hour drop off consisted of mostly young women tuning out.

Dave Meltzer speculates it was perhaps Drake “Piss Pants” Maverick which turned them off, but the big audience decline also occurred after the trainwreck Nia Jax/Ronda Rousey promo segment. So if you were tuning in hoping for the kind of trash talk and banter the top of the SmackDown women’s card delivers and saw that… you might be disappointed and decide to call it a night.

While we all stew on these figures and what could be behind them, here’s a list of SmackDown’s numbers from the past six months to marinate in as well:

Nov. 20 – 2.15 million / .69
Nov. 13 – 2.31 million / .90
Nov. 6 – 2.1 million / .68
Oct. 30 – 2.11 million / .73

Sept. 18 – 2.28 million / .78
Sept. 11 – 2.23 million / .72

Aug. 21 – 2.44 million / .77
