Progress: New York City recap & review: Thatcher becomes #1 contender, Janela’s feet hurt, and Riddle regains the Atlas title

Progress: New York City hit Demand Progress today, so let’s get right into it, shall we?

After Jim Smallman’s usual (and lovely) introductory patter that I generally don’t recap, Pete Dunne comes to the ring. He says even if he wasn’t injured, he wouldn’t be wrestling tonight. He’s the highest paid sports entertainer on the show, he sells more merchandise than anybody, including the company, so why shouldh e come to the ring and risk his body for us?

He owns Progress, he owns New York, pro wrestling belongs to him, Progress is his, WWE is his, everything is Pete Dunne’s.

This brings Jack Gallagher down in fighting trim. He tells Dunne to mind his language before contesting the idea that Dunne owns any of that. He didn’t see him at TV last week, for one. But he knows he’s not medically cleared to wrestle (a word Jack can say here!), and he wants to extend a hand in friendship and maybe they can do this in the future.

Peter, predictably, swats his hand out of the air and takes his leave with his title belts. Jack says he’s here for competition, which brings his old rival Zack Gibson down. New York gives Zack the welcome he is most accustomed to as he launches into his spiel about being number one in a variety of places.

He adds a new verse running down the New York crowd for being a parody of the UK’s great wrestling scene and then telling Gallagher that he watched the last six months of his career and he’s a parody of a professional wrestler now. Jack rebuts, saying this isn’t 205 Live, this is Progress and lands a headbutt! We have a match!

Jack Gallagher vs. Zack Gibson

The action spills outside, diving knee, Jack well in control until Gibson puts a hammerlock on and slams him arm-first into the barricade! Into the rail on the far side, arm-first again, uppercut, back inside and a nearfall off a lariat. Zack continuing to target the arm, wrenching and barring, getting disrespectful and shoving Gallagher by the head.

Turning into forearms but Jack gets fired up, Gibson knows he has to put him away, goes for Helter Skelter, Gallagher reverses to a straight suplex! Strike rush in the corner, boot to the face, just a nearfall! Zack back at it, nearly gets Shankly Gates, nearly gets Ticket to Ride, Jack ducking and dodging, he fires off a headbutt… NO GOOD!

Gibson spits in his face, wrenches the arm to reverse a butterfly, elbow right to the face, up for the Tombstone-style Codebreaker… NOT ENOUGH! Forearm for uppercut, the gentleman pulling ahead but Zack cuts him off and they shift into a straight forearm exchange. Cross chop to the throat gets another headbutt in return and both men are down and out!

On their knees, trading slaps into uppercuts, just clubbing the hell out of each other, Gibson lands a lariat, looking for a capture brainbuster but Gallagher reverses to a guillotine choke! Zack flags, trying to find and escape but he doesn’t fail, suplex reversal, Jack on his feet! Another headbutt sends Gibson to the corner, the running dropkick follows… ZACK GIBSON SURVIVES!

Zack bails, Jack throws a suicide dive, Gibson catches him… HELTER SKELTER ON THE FLOOR! Back in, Ticket to Ride… JACK GALLAGHER LIVES! The Shankly Gates are in but he can’t step over, Gallagher reverses to a pin for a nearfall, uppercut backs him in the corner, Zack to the corner again, the running dropkick connects, Jack climbs…

Jack Gallager wins by pinfall with a torpedo-style diving headbutt.

Holy crap, that ruled. Being a replacement match and all, not one person could have blamed WWE Superstar Jack Gallagher (good gravy, typing that is fun!) if they had done like eight minutes of mat grappling and called it a day… but they didn’t. They went hard, they went big, and they had a hell of a match to kick the show off with. Full points, lads.

Dahlia Black & Dakota Kai vs. Deonna Purrazzo & Jinny

Black and Jinny to start, Dahlia having a bit of fun with her old pal in the feeling out, ducking and dodging, trading quick nearfalls off of pinning predicaments. Eventually Black gets tired of it and requests assistance getting up before tags are made. A bit of light lucha, Kai throwing arm drags and dropkicks, quick tag to Dahlia and they have Deonna isolated.

Repeated double knees set up the cannonball but it’s only good for a nearfall. Kick rush, snapmare, off the ropes, blind tag, Penalty Kick to the back, Dakota in with one to the front but it’s not enough to put Purrazzo away. Deonna rallying, targeting the head, tag to Jinny and she keeps the assault on, stomping away at the midsection of the erstwhile Evie.

Flash kicks find their mark, STO backbreaker, a kick right to the jaw, only a nearfall and Kai blocks the follow-up with a jawbreaker, tagging Black back in. Whip into a reverse roundhouse, but Jinny catches another kick and lands a dragon screw on the bad leg! Stomping away as referee Brandon Tolle tries to check on Dahlia, pulling her into the middle of the ring to more directly target the ankle, but the cover’s only good for two.

Deonna in, continuing to just savage the leg, stomping and wrenching, spinning toehold into the figure four leglock Ric Flair style! Black rolls through and reverses the pressure, forcing Purrazzo to the ropes! After the break, Deonna knocks Dakota down from the apron to deny the tag and resumes the attack on the leg.

Jinny legal, wishbone the legs, stomping and standing, wrenching the leg over the ropes for even more damage! Desperate for the tag, Jinny grinds her face into the mat and posts the knee straight into the mat repeatedly, but even after all this, the cover only gets two. Drawing Black to her feet, Jinny lays forearms in but Dahlia manages to dig deep for one of her own in return!

She blocks the Acid Rainmaker, duck under, cobra clutch backbreaker to a cobra clutch DDT but Black can’t capitalize! What she can do is make the tag at the same time as Jinny does! Kai in like a house afire, facewash gets a nearfall, going for TTYL but Jinny breaks it out and lands a roundhouse! Dahlia in with a dropkick, Purrazzo cuts her off with a Mafia Kick and Dakota completes the circle with one of her own!

All four women to their feet, pairing off and trading forearms, off the ropes and Deonna and Jinny land stereo German suplexes! Jinny passes Black to the apron, dropkick to the knee, she goes for a Penalty Kick off the apron but is met with a trip, Kai hits the Rock Bottom backbreaker, nobody home on the Mafia Kick, Purrazzo capitalizes…

Deonna Purrazzo & Jinny win by pinfall with a neckbreaker from Purrazzo on Dakota Kai.

Well that was a hoot. Building so much of it around Dahlia’s injured ankle was inspired, given Purrazzo’s strengths and Jinny’s natural aura of evil and spite.

Donovan Dijak vs. Timothy Thatcher (Progress Atlas Division Championship #1 Contender’s Match)

Intense grappling early, Tall Don holding his own. Eventually Thatcher catches a kick and Dijak backflips out of it and the heat turns up, corkscrew senton atomico into the turning falling splash is good for a nearfall but not enough for the contendership. Tim off the ropes with the belly to belly suplex, Don blocks a whip and scoops him up for a spinning front slam!

Thatcher on dream street but he has the wits about him to counter a goozle into an arm wringer and put Dijak into the post arm-first. Divorce Court to a double wristlock, trying to push through the full Kimura lock but Don blocks, Tim shifts to a cross armbar and Dijak finds sanctuary in the ropes.

Kicking away at the arm, Dijak fighting back however he can but the former Evolve World Champion pummels him with forearms in return. Looking for the butterfly suplex but Tall Don takes a knee to block and instinctively hits a lariat with the bad arm only to regret it! Forearms with the bad arm, Thatcher hits his enzuigiri for a one count, manhandling Dijak and keeping him down for repeated covers.

Knees to the back, Don throwing desperate strikes, Tim draws him up, body blows into the Karelin lift, but again, only a nearfall. Clubbing at the arm, back to the butterfly and Dijak backs him into the corner to force the break. Don using his left hand, risking the right only at the end of chains when he knows he can afford the shock to the system, kick to the throat, knees in the corner, huge release suplex!

Calling for Feast Your Eyes but Thatcher blocks with a headlock and turns it into a sleeper hold. Dijak flags but doesn’t fail, backing Tim into the corner to try and break, where the Ringkampf man lets go for a second but immediately locks it back on! Using the arm as a lever to escape, superkick, fireman’s carry into the spinebuster… NOPE!

Calling for the goozle but he used the bad arm, Thatcher escapes, Fujiwara armbar denied, Don off the ropes, Cyclone Kill! Dijak up top, moonsault… NOT ENOUGH! Feast Your Eyes, Tim catches the knee, big slaps but Dijak catches him in the chokebreaker! Slow to capitalize with the arm in pain… STILL NOT ENOUGH! Thatcher has the Fujiwara armbar locked in in the middle of the ring!

Crawling for the ropes, to his feet, Argentine backbreaker rack… FEAST YOUR EYES! THATCHER GOT HIS FOOT ON THE ROPES! Thinking about the moonsault again, wondering what he has to do to put Timothy Thatcher away when Stokely Hathaway gets on the apron! Stoke’s interference gives Tim time to recover as Dijak hits Spiral Tap on nothing!

Thatcher has the sleeper but Dijak breaks with a backpack cannonball! Shaking his fist, trying to fire himself back up but Tim slides in and grabs the Fujiwara! NOWHERE TO GO! IT’S OVER!

Timothy Thatcher wins by submission with the Fujiwara armbar, becoming #1 contender to the Progress Atlas Division Championship.

An excellent match, from Dijak using his power for the early advantage to Thatcher going ham on the arm, to the way Don sold the arm, not simply letting it hang limp and useless from the first damage but trying to use it strategically for added power when he knew he’d have a second to recover from the pain, to Dijak leaning into the flying late trying to find any edge to grab onto. One of my favorites of the year thus far.

Stokely gets on the mic to celebrate and talks about when Tim’s going to cash in his title shot. It’s certainly not going to be at this dump, it’s going to be at Alexandra Palace at Chapter 55!

Jimmy Havoc vs. Joey Janela (No Disqualification Match)

Charging in at each other with stereo pump kicks, Joey thinks fast and lands a knee that sends Jimmy outside and follows it up with a suicide dive! Havoc fires one off in return and we get a brawl on the floor. Jimmy goes under for plunder and comes up with a REALLY beat-up table, setting it up at ringside.

Janela cuts him off and sets him up in a chair, around the ring for a boot, thinking about a second and he gets it without issue! One time too many, Havoc catches him with an elbow and runs around the ring himself only to settle on an eyepoke. Back in, Jimmy throws a chair at the Bad Boy but is cut off by chops and forearms before he can set up whatever he’s thinking.

Comeback, Joey seated in a chair and Havoc hits a monkey flip that takes the chair with him! A dropkick knocks Janela out of it, diving double stomp connects for a nearfall and Jimmy heads back outside for more plunder, coming up with a door this time. Charge in the corner, Joey picks him up and powerbombs him into the table! Havoc tries to pop right back up but immediately fails and the Bad Boy gets a cover for a nearfall.

Pushing chairs together, Janela sets Havoc up in the corner and climbs after him, thinking about a superplex, Jimmy blocks… FLIP DDT OFF THE TOP THROUGH THE CHAIRS! JOEY JANELA LIVES! Jimmy in with slaps, Joey has uppercuts, kick for kick, Acid Rainmaker blocked with an elbow strike, stereo rolling elbows and both men are out on the mat!

Another Acid Rainmaker countered into a California Roll, Janela takes him to the apron… DEATH VALLEY DRIVER THROUGH THE TABLE TO THE FLOOR! Back in the ring, Joey thinks fast… SPINNING PACKAGE PILEDRIVER! YOU CANNOT KILL JIMMY HAVOC! THE BAD BOY HAS CINDER BLOCKS! HE SETS TWO OF THEM ACROSS THE BACK OF JIMMY’S HEAD BUT HE GETS UP, ARRANGES THEM ON THE CHAIRS… PRESS SLAM INTO THE BLOCKS! SOMEHOW NOT ENOUGH!

Pumphandle powerbomb, another nearfall… HAVOC TAKES JANELA’S SHOE OFF AND BITES HIS FOOT! THE OTHER PIGGY GOES TO MARKET AS WELL! HE’S GOT TACKS! Manhattan Drop reversed to a sunset flip, Jimmy succeeds on putting Joey’s feet into the tacks with an atomic drop! GERMAN SUPLEX INTO THE CINDER BLOCKS! WRISTLOCK…

JIMMY HAVOC WINS BY PINFALL WITH THE ACID RAINMAKER!

Incredible. There are very few people on Jimmy Havoc’s level as far as taking a deathmatch and turning it into an escalating serious of increasingly nauseating spots without ever losing the thread of a pro wrestling contest, and Joey Janela is one of ’em.

Austin Theory vs. Keith Lee vs. Mark Andrews vs. Mark Haskins

All three smaller men attacking Lee to start but he shrugs them off and goes to handing out double overhand chops in each corner! Biels follow, thinking about a dive but Theory and Haskins form an alliance and take him out. Austin with the double cross, Andrews in to take him out with a Frankensteiner, and Haskins cuts him off with a dropkick in turn!

Suicide dive on Theory, one for Lee, White Lightning returns the favor with a dropkick… TOPE CON GIRO! Haskins got away… another suicide dive! The two UK lads jockeying for position, Andrews knocks Haskins aside, Theory in, slingshot stomp, wristlocks lifted into a suplex, Haskins back in with a double stomp! Andrews gets most of a Tiger feint kick before slingshotting in, Haskins throws him aside, thinking suplex, STUNDOG MILLIONAIRE!

The Limitless One back in, he draws White Lightning right up into an electric chair… POISON FRANKENSTEINER! Triple dropkicks knock Keith back out of it before Andrews sets ’em up and knocks ’em down for a nearfall. Haskins back body drops Andrews outside, he lands an enzuigiri, nobody home on the dive, jackknife pin, Haskins bridges up but Theory breaks it with a standing moonsault… NO GOOD!

Enzuigiri ducked, Haskins gets the bridging Fujiwara but White Lightning makes the save! Frankensteiner attempt but Haskins stops him short and turns it into a Boston Crab on top of Theory, who gets added in with a reverse chinlock! Lee back in, powerbombing Haskins into the corner, passing Andrews into him but Austin stops him short with a rolling blockbuster!

Haskins in, spiking the unproven young man with a fireman’s carry Michinoku Driver! Andrews with a boot up on the charge but Haskins cuts him off, AVALANCHE FRANKENSTEINER! KEITH LEE CATCHES MARK ANDREWS INTO A POWERBOMB CLUTCH BUT WHITE LIGHTNING ROLLS THROUGH TO ANOTHER FRANKENSTEINER! Off the ropes for a crossbody, bad idea, Mark catches him, swings him around but Haskins hits a superkick to assist his fellow Mark in hitting a crucifix driver!

Another superkick for Andrews, one more, roll through to the Death Valley Driver but White Lightning reverses with a Stunner! Up top, Theory cuts him off, thinking superplex when Keith rolls up… TOWER OF DOOM! HE TOOK A FEW STEPS INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE RING BEFORE DROPPING THEM WITH THE POWERBOMB WHAT EVEN?! IT AIN’T OVER YET!

Lee and Haskins facing off, Mark throwing chest kicks, a knee to the gut, off the ropes… POUNCE! Pulling Haskins over, thinking Doomsault… NOBODY HOME! FLIP PILEDRIVER FROM HASKINS! ROLLING THUNDER DROPKICK FROM THEORY! KNEE FROM HASKINS! HE BLOCKS THE SPINNING ARGENTINE POWERBOMB AND LOCKS THE SHARPSHOOTER ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING!

Mark Haskins wins by submission with a Sharpshooter on Austin Theory.

This match was stupid in the absolute best possible way. Just four dudes breaking physics over and over again at incredible speed, really good stuff.

British Strong Style (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) (c) vs. South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks) (Progress Tag Team Championship)

Bate and Banks to start, trading pins early and a rolling sunset flip leads to a stalemate and tags being made. Seven fooling around, so Cooper plays the circle game with him and lays him out with a punch. Trent heads outside, Tyler in, right hand, thinking about a dive but Travis cuts him off with a kick! Kiwi Buzzsaw with a suicide dive and TK heads up top for the corkscrew moonsault that dislocates his ankle.

The match is ruled a no-contest.

…but Travis Banks isn’t done with British Strong Style! He gets on the mic and says instead of going to the back, he wants ’em in a handicap match! Jim polls the crowd and makes it official!

British Strong Style (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) vs. Travis Banks (Handicap Match)

Ducking a lariat from Dunne and Travis hits a suicide dive on Banks and Seven! Taking it to ’em two for one on the floor but their numbers catch up to him and he takes a beating against the barricade. Elbow and a boot pull him back into it but it’s a hard fight all the same. Back in the ring, trading shots with Trent, and Seven catches him with a DDT on a fakeout in order to make the tag.

Snapmare, Tyler in with a dropkick to the back of the head that gets a one count! Scoop and a slam, Earthquake splash but he doesn’t weigh enough for THAT and so Banks comes back with those buzzsaw chest kicks. Bate picks the leg and makes the tag, Seven coming in and choking Travis over the ropes while simultaneously chopping his crotch.

Trent gets into it with referee Brandon Tolle and Dunne takes full advantage, chewing on and wishboning the Kiwi Buzzsaw’s fingers! Continuing to work Banks over, wheelbarrow seated senton into a folding press for a nearfall. Disdainful kicks and slaps from both BSS men but Travis just gets fired up! Chest kicks for everybody!

Duck a forearm, German suplex, corner-to-corner uppercuts, leg kick stacks ’em up and the cannonball takes ’em out! Coast to Coast, Kiwi Krusher… HE HAD IT WON BUT PETER YANKED TOLLE OUT OF THE RING BEFORE THE THREE! BRANDON TOLLE EJECTS PETE DUNNE! Too little too late, perhaps, because Seven hits him low, Pedigree, double pin… TRAVIS BANKS KICKED OUT AT ONE!

Duck a lariat, Slice of Heaven, dump Tyler…

Travis Banks wins by pinfall with a lateral press on Tyler Bate.

Obviously a terrible situation with TK’s injury, but they did the best they could delivering on the promise of the tag title match in handicap form.

Matt Riddle vs. WALTER (c) (Progress Atlas Division Championship)

Mat grappling to start, back and forth until they reach a stalemate and WALTER is the first to get frustrated, throwing a chop. Riddle ducks, throws a roundhouse that the Austrian ducks and gets hit by the chop and a slam but the followup leg drop comes up empty and Bro comes off the ropes with a forearm. A second try and WALTER has the Gojira Clutch in, Ringkampf rope break, standing switch, Matt with the German suplex!

Off the ropes again, forearms, a few repetitions but WALTER nails him with a dropkick! The action spills outside, trading chops until the big man wipes Deep Waters out with a boot! More chops, ringing out across the arena like gunshots as the blood blisters rise up on their skin!

Back in the ring, Riddle grabbing the leg to block but the champion hits a Karelin lift! Another, thinking about a third but our Bro counters with one of his own! He also gets a second, and hits the high jump senton but it’s only a nearfall. Chest kicks, the sweat spraying off WALTER’s chest. He catches the Pele kick, hits the butterfly suplex, a split-second away from retaining the title!

Sidestepping a charge, Matt hits a German suplex but WALTER pops up! A boot connects, a German in return, Riddle pops up this time! Another German and our Bro lands on his feet! He comes in with the knee and the Ringkampf man lays him out with a right! Powerbomb blocked, the knee connects, fisherman buster but Riddle can’t capitalize!

To his feet, our Bro squares up, in with the knee, hammerfists and stomps to the side of the head but the cover only keeps WALTER down for one! Up top, WALTER cuts him off with a chop, they struggle in the corner a bit… BUTTERFLY SUPERPLEX! NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP RIDDLE DOWN! Looking for a powerbomb, Matt blocks, fireman’s carry, Bro 2 Sleep!

Off the ropes, WALTER lays his challenger out with a lariat! Both men down, trading chops on their knees and to their feet, just absolutely pasting each other as the tempo intensifies! Riddle switches to kicks, WALTER ducks the roundhouse, the Gojira Clutch is back on! Bro throws his way out and locks a triangle choke on!

WALTER posts to his feet and counters with the powerbomb! A second powerbomb into a lateral press… NO GOOD! Champion in with a boot, Riddle in with the Pele kick, a second Bro 2 Sleep into the bridging German suplex… NOT ENOUGH! Up top, diving senton… THE KNEES WERE UP AND THE GOJIRA CLUTCH IS ON WITH BODYSCISSORS IN! RIDDLE DESPERATELY REACHES THE ROPES!

Stomping away at the back of Matt’s neck, WALTER clearly frustrated, big palm strikes, but the knee connects in return! Bro 2 Sleep! Short-arm knee strikes, three in total! Busaiku Knee Kick follows and knocks the champion down! Up top, diving senton connects… WALTER LIVES! Riddle takes his back, pounds him with elbows… THE BROMISSION IS ON! HE’S CHOPPING AWAY AT THE CHEST! WALTER TAPS! IT’S OVER!

Matt Riddle wins by submission with the Bromission, winning the Progress Atlas Division Championship and becoming the only two-time champion to date!

Fantastic match, a perfect companion to their previous match. There, WALTER just had Riddle completely scouted, and here he changed up enough, chopping stuff up and remixing it, to be able to catch the Austrian off-guard long enough to force a submission. And of course, the sheer visceral nature of these men trading chops cannot be denied. Jawdropping every time.

Overall

If it weren’t for TK Cooper getting hurt, this might be the platonic ideal of a touring Progress show, and even with that blemish, it’s still an incredible show match-wise. Every match delivered, each in a different way and to a very high level, to the point where picking favorites is just about impossible but I guess for the purposes of a review I have to, and so I’m gonna single out the big lads here.

Two very different matches, WALTER and Riddle as two long-time rivals chipping away at each other and countering counters, while Dijak and Thatcher had a first time matchup built around arm work that I’m really bummed will likely be an only-time matchup given that Tall Don is headed… elsewhere. Because, holy crap, imagining the stuff they did there escalated in a future match gives me chills. Alas.

Storyline-wise, aside from moving the pieces into play for the Atlas title match at Alexandra Palace and deepening the “boy, British Strong Style sure are dicks” thread, there’s not a huge amount of note here, but there doesn’t have to be, because it’s a touring show and Progress are on such an incredible tear as far as their match quality goes.

Check it out on Demand Progress folks, you will not regret it.

Roman Reigns Once Again Comments On Potential Shield Reunion

Ever since WWE put Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins back together as a tag-team on television, the WWE Universe has been clamoring for a full reunion of The Shield.

As he has been in a number of interviews recently, Roman Reigns was once again asked about the possibility of reuniting with Ambrose and Rollins to have a full-throttle Shield reunion.

In a new interview with ESPN, Reigns explained why it isn’t likely to happen right now, given the fact that he has unfinished business of his own to attend to, such as his feuds with Braun Strowman, John Cena and his desire to become the WWE Universal Champion.

“Over the next few weeks, we’ll be able to see it play out,” Reigns told ESPN in an interview released this week. “But the main thing right now is I’ve been in the title picture for the Raw brand, so I can firmly say neither of those guys would leave [that situation] to rejoin The Shield [and] rekindle that flame.”

Reigns continued, “Maybe I’m a third wheel at this point. It just really depends. I feel like the next few weeks are really going to play out some important things for me. Obviously, I need to transition coming out of this big feud between the four monsters.”

Triple H reiterates WWE interest in Ronda Rousey on ESPN First Take

WWE has been flirting with the idea of using former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey for years now, having already shot an angle with her at a WrestleMania and teasing much more to come. She was invited to and made a part of the show at the Mae Young Classic recently, leading to obvious speculation the company will be doing something with her — and the rest of the Four Horsewomen of MMA — in the future.

During his appearance on ESPN First Take today, Triple H reiterated WWE’s interest in her signing with the company:

“Ronda has been a huge fan of WWE her whole life, she’s been very adamant about that. She’s done stuff with us before. … She’s a huge fan. I think it’s something that she’s definitely interested and I’ll throw it out right now: if she’s interested I’ll give her the opportunity. We’re all about personalities and that’s what she brings to the table. I think she’s shown it in UFC, she’s shown it in Hollywood, she’s shown it everywhere. Her personality will drive fan interest.”

Zack Sabre Jr On Being Chosen For The G1 Climax

– Zack Sabre Jr recently spoke with New Japan Pro Wrestling on a wide variety of topics, check out the highlights below:

Zack Sabre Jr reacts to being chosen to compete in the G1 Climax?

I knew if I wanted to wrestle in Japan, being a part of the G1 was really important. My aspiration was to be involved in the biggest opportunities from the get-go. So if I wasn’t in the G1 this year, I would have been really disappointed. I feel like my previous time in Japan gave me my foundation, and it’s helped me be a part of bigger things.

Sabre comments on facing Kota Ibushi in the G1 after many believed they would have faced off in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic:

I admire Ibushi’s approach to wrestling. He wrestles in the way that he thinks he should, and I would like to think that I’m the same way. Obviously you want to entertain, but I want to feel happy in the way I wrestle, in the style that I have. So I felt that in the match against Ibushi. There’s a genuine passion in the way he wrestles.

ZSJ comments on joining Suzuki-Gun and fans questioning the move:

I don’t think that just because there are fans that have an image of you, that’s what you should be doing. I’ve always felt I wrestle an aggressive style, that’s what I aim for. I never had any aim to be a fan favorite, or “babyface”. Maybe I’ve fallen into positions of that role elsewhere…But I feel if you are really a fan of what I do, you’ll see that my joining with Suzuki-Gun is really quite natural.

If Minoru Suzuki’s background in UWF and Pancrase was a factor in joining:

Yeah it was definitely a factor. I’ve admired the way Suzuki wrestles for a while now. I think he approaches wrestling in his own unique way, and I feel that’s really important. A lot of wrestlers follow the a uniform mindset, but he does it all his own way.

I grew up watching a lot of submission style wrestling. UWF, UWFI, Battlarts, Pancrase, things like that. So for me, it’s also a great opportunity to further my study of pro-wrestling.

Here’s why Chris Jericho says Roman Reigns might be the best wrestler in WWE

From an interview with SI, discussing whether or not the kind of reaction a wrestler gets really matters:

“It doesn’t. Obviously there comes a point where you want to steer people in the right direction. For whatever reason it’s the cool thing to boo Roman Reigns, just as it was the cool thing to boo John Cena, just as it was the cool thing to boo The Rock. But guess what? Those guys are so good that if you really are a wrestling fan… and Roman Reigns might be the best wrestler in the company. And I’m telling you that because if people are interested in what you’re doing whether they’re booing or whether they’re cheering, they’re still going to pay money to see you.”

This comes just after Reigns was quoted as saying he’s the first true “gray area guy,” meaning he’s not a heel or a babyface. It seems clear at this point that those within WWE agree that it doesn’t matter if a wrestler is getting booed or getting cheered as long as said wrestler is drawing fans in.

Jericho is saying that Reigns is the best because he can draw those fans in. He creates a feeling within you one way or another and that feeling leads to money. In this industry, that’s the central goal of any wrestler. Just make them pay to see you, and however they express themselves after that matters not.

Agree with Jericho?

Nikki Bella On Returning To WWE, Working A Part-Time Schedule

– WWE Superstar Nikki Bella recently spoke with Inside The Ropes on a wide variety of topics prior to SummerSlam weekend, check out the highlights below:

On wanting to make a comeback with Brie:

“Definitely coming back. I want to come back when I have my sister by my side. It’s been over two years since the Bella Twins have been in the ring together, so I definitely want to make a comeback with Brie. I’m obviously still waiting for my neck to heal, so I’m hoping 2018 is gonna be the time when we come back. I hope before then, but I don’t know if that can happen. That’s the thing about bones, it’s like ‘c’mon!’”

On the possibility of working a part time schedule due to her neck injury:

“Unfortunately because of my neck, my surgeon… he doesn’t even want me to come back and ever be in the ring again, but, he definitely said you can’t ever be in the ring full-time again. We kind of saw that when I came back last Summerslam when I went to full-time through Wrestlemania; I ended up getting injured. It’s very tough on my body working a full-time schedule unfortunately.”

Triple H On Mayweather – McGregor, Ronda Rousey Coming To WWE

– Triple H was a guest on ESPN First Take today; you can read a few transcribed highlights below, and watch the interview in the above player:

Triple H on the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather fight:

I think from a promotional standpoint, they did a lot of things right. They found two personalities, and that is really what this is all about. Floyd will be the first guy to tell you a personality is what sells fights. It’s what he does. He changed himself from ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ to ‘Money Mayweather’ and that was based around WWE, and the culture of changing Hulk Hogan to Hollywood Hogan, and reinventing yourself. He created that persona, McGregor created a persona, a lot of it having to do around what WWE does, but also what Mayweather does. When you have personalities like that and you put them in the ring, and have that type of conflict, it’s what we do on a daily basis, but they did it very well. It was a moment in time that I don’t think you could replicate. The great thing is, I think what people were afraid of was that it wouldn’t deliver; I think it did deliver. I think people got an entertaining ten round fight. It ended up where the educated person would imagine that it wouldn’t end up, but I think it was entertaining and it delivered on a lot of levels.

On big personalities like LaVar Ball or Rob Gronkowski being a good fit for WWE and how they engage fans:

LaVar Ball certainly has a pension for winding people up, and wanting to see people beat him. I think that’s an important factor, but you never know what’s going to connect with people. Those personalities, when you look at McGregor, you look at Ronda Rousey, you look at Gronk, you look at LaVar Ball, all of those people; what connects them is personalities. Whether you love them or you hate them, those personalities drive people. They create a connection, and that’s really what people pay to see. There are very few pure boxing fans in the world, there are very few pure MMA aficionados in the world, there are very few pure WWE, or NBA or NFL that really admire the intricacies of all of that stuff. The personalities drive them. Whether that be the team or the individuals.

On if Ronda Rousey ends up in WWE:

Ronda has been a fan of WWE her whole life, she’s been adamant about that and she’s done stuff with us before. You’re watching a clip [ESPN airing a clip from Wrestlemania 31] of her throwing me, I don’t know why you’re showing it, but she tends to throw me around when I see her. She’s a huge fan, I think it’s something she’s definitely interested in. I’ll throw it out right now; if she’s interested I’ll give her the opportunity. We’re all about personalities, and that’s what she brings to the table. I think she’s shown it in UFC, she’s shown it in Hollywood, she’s shown it everywhere. Her personality will drive fan interest.

Sexy Starr Talks About Shoot Incident With Rosemary In New Video Interview

By now, the majority of the pro wrestling world has been made aware of the shoot incident that took place between Sexy Starr and GFW Knockout Rosemary at the recent AAA TripleMania pay-per-view, one that resulted in the latter suffering arm injuries.

Since the incident went down at the PPV show last weekend, Rosemary has come out with a lengthy statement giving her side of the situation, while Starr has remained silent for the most part.

Until now.

This week, Sexy Starr finally broke her silence in a new Spanish interview that surfaced on the internet today. Featured above is the interview, which originated from rderudo.com. Featured below is a rough English translation of the comments Starr made in Spanish during the interview.

“This have been very difficult days for me,” Sexy Star said. “Last Saturday, I was in a championship fight [and it] was very hard. I think everything got out of hand. I don’t know, I am still confused with the situation. I’d like to remain quiet and when the time is right I will speak on the subject.”

Starr continued, “Men and women want to finish me, make me retire from the sport. I am still here, as I stated in the beginning, I will not stop representing all those women that have been mistreated physically or psychologically. I believe that I have to [be] stronger. If at a moment I went through depression and got out of it, I will also get out of this one.

“I was doing what I had to do, what the people deserved, to go all in clawing until the end. That’s what happened, I submitted her. It appears the girl is injured, I don’t know, [it] is not something I am aware of. That’s all I can say.”

Mayweather vs. McGregor PPV buys hit 6.5 million, says Dana White

Urijah Faber and Snoop Dogg were having a chat with UFC President Dana White when this happened:

That would seem to be Faber repeating that White said the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight that happened this past Sat., Aug. 26, 2017, in Paradise, Nevada, did 6.5 million buys on pay-per-view.

That would be a new record, beating out the 4.6 million buys the Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight did just a couple years ago.

It’s not an official number, of course, and it’s at least possible it’s not the number at all, but all signs pointed to this show breaking records so it would be no surprise if it did just that.

Batista Reveals How He Came Up With His WWE Name, Talks Transition To Acting

Former WWE Superstar and emerging Hollywood actor Dave Bautista recently spoke with the folks from Uproxx for an interview. Below are some of the highlights.

On coming up with his WWE name: “I actually didn’t. All right, here’s the funny thing about that, because when I was …when I went up, when I was called up from OVW, which was our training facility, they changed my name and changed it to ‘Batista.’ I didn’t realized they changed the spelling of it. Well, I was told the reason they did that was so people would be able to pronounce it easier, and then I was told later by another wrestler, he said, ‘No, you dummy. They did that so they could own it. They just can’t own your name. They changed the spelling, now they own it.’ Which was true. I left WWE without my wrestling name, went back to my real name, and started over.”

On whether or not he feels WWE helped him transition to an acting career: “I don’t know if it did. I think as far as comedic timing whatever, I think that all comes from me really just being a fan of movies, being a fan of comedians, and not being afraid to embarrass myself. Not being afraid to make fun of myself. I think that’s where that comes from. As far as wrestling, it’s weird because it’s such a big, I don’t know, physical type performance. It’s hard to compare it to actual film acting. Yeah. Yeah, maybe. I mean, I never really thought about it as far as that kind of timing goes because when I was with the WWE the last thing I wanted to do was get on a microphone and actually speak because it would just terrify me.”

On his old “Deacon Batista” storyline with D-Von Dudley: “Only in WWE. When I first came up, I did this character called Deacon Batista, so it was the same last name, but I was working with this guy named D-Von Dudley and he was doing this televangelist preacher type deal where he was collecting money and I held this big, goofy box and I was a security guard of his money box. So ridiculous. It was horrible.”

Booker T Reveals Who He Would Like To Face If He Returned For One More Match

WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T recently appeared as a guest on Ring Rust Radio for an interview. Below are some of the highlights.

On his Reality Of Wrestling promotion debuting as a new weekly program on the FITE TV streaming service beginning in September: “Aw, man, it’s huge to actually have a platform and let the world see Reality of Wrestling as well as to be able to compete with all the other independent companies around the world. You’re only going to get better if you’re actually competing. It’s almost like the Monday Night Wars for me all over again. That’s the kind of feeling I get with Reality of Wrestling. My thing is we have a lot of young guys and I probably have the youngest roster in professional wrestling as far as our company goes. For me to actually let my guys get out there and show how good they really are is what’s important. For me, when I went to WWE, I wanted to compete with the best wrestlers out there and now Reality of Wrestling is going to be able to compete with the best indie wrestlers around the world and I’m really excited and looking forward to it.”

On running for Mayor of Houston, Texas in the 2019 election and transitioning into politics: “I relate with the majority of the voters, I think. Everybody is not born with a silver spoon in their mouth. There are only a very small percentage of those types of people, you know what I mean? I think I relate with more than a few. I’m talking to the young people here in the city of Houston, the millennials, the ones that feel left out. The ones that feel like older people think they’re part of the problem as opposed to being part of the solution. I’m one of the guys that say respect your elders, but we are in a time now with social media is such a huge thing and we have to know how to respect our young people and bring them in the fold. We have to let them be a part of the process and not be the silent majority. I think that’s going to propel me to City Hall more than anything. Just knowing what young people want. I walked in a lot of those shoes and they know that. I want to give them hope and inspiration to be bigger and better than they ever thought they could be and I think that’s why I will win.”

On who stands out to him as his biggest career rival and who his dream opponent would be if he were to come back for one more match in WWE: “Booker T vs. Shawn Michaels in our prime, not now of course. He’s still looking real good, but even in our prime, I think Shawn Michaels and I could’ve went out and created some magic between us. He’s the one guy I never really got a chance to get in the ring and perform with. There’s been so many rivals, most of them Canadian guys like Rick Martel, Christian and Chris Benoit. Those guys were all ultimate professionals, every one of them. They went out and worked under the same roof for so many years with the same tenacity and they went out and performed just tirelessly. I was one of those guys. I felt like I went through that same school, but the Canadian guys were pretty much my all-time rivals in the business.”

On transitioning from a longtime active pro wrestler to a retired wrestler establishing himself as a WWE television announcer: “Man, I love it. I love having the best seat in the house and watching the young guys go out there and do their thing. It’s their time now and I embrace it. I push them to go as far as they can go and do much more than Booker T did. I love making the transition and changing my levels and being able to still be around what I love more than anything. Then to try and figure out the nuances of that game as well. Just being a commentator is not as easy as people think with going out there and talking for three hours. So, I don’t call myself a commentator, I call myself an analyst. I know my role and I go out there and try and have fun with it every week because you just never know when it’s going to be the last time. So, for me, making that transition and doing a job that I never imagined or dreamt of doing was surreal. I don’t have any broadcast experience or anything like that, but I used to play around doing commentary in the back. One day they said, ‘Hey Book, you want to try this out?’ So, I went out and tried it. The thing is you never know what you can do until you try it. Even if you try, you still may fail but that’s when you have to go and prepare because if you’re not prepared, you’re preparing to fail. That’s my advice to the young people is just prepare.”

WWE NXT Results (08/30) – Roderick Strong Vs. Bobby Roode Headlines

“WWE: Then. Now. Forever.”

The NXT intro brings us to a strange scene outside Full Sail, as we find Alexander Wolfe among others laid out. Regal is brought to see what’s going on, before we head to ringside as new NXT Champion Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring, the crowd fully behind him as he gets into the ring and gets a mic from ringside.

Drew McIntyre addresses the NXT Universee

Drew says this is his life: all the work, the dreams, the bumps and bruises, the sacrifices, the ups and downs over the last seventeen years led to right now! This is my life’s work, but I’m not naive; this title comes with a big target on your back. I hadn’t even won this for a minute before they were already lining up, and that’s fine with me. It’s one thing to win the title, it’s a whole other game to hold onto it so I’m not going to waste any time. I’m going to get my mission statement out right now. Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, Adam Cole, every single person in that locker room, I’m putting you on notice right now. This is Drew McIntyre’s world now, and if you want a shot at the champ…all you gotta do is walk down to this ring, step between those ropes, walk up to me, look me in the eyes and ask me to fight!

This brings out Roderick Strong, who walks down to the ring and gets a mic of his own. Roderick will be the first to congratulate Drew, but he’ll also be the first to agree that the title puts a target on Drew’s back. Roderick saw what happened at Takeover, but doesn’t care about all that…all he cares about is himself, his family, and that NXT Championship! Tonight, I beat Bobby Roode, the guy you beat to gain that title…and after that, you said you wanted someone to step up to you and fight you like a man…well, here I am! Drew says this is what he wants, Roderick stepped up to him like a damn man…I just hope you’re ready to get knocked out like a man. Drew drops the mic before leaving the ring, staring down at Strong from the stage as commentary hypes our main event later tonight as Roderick Strong takes on former NXT Champion Bobby Roode.

We go back to last week’s interview with Roode after his Smackdown Live debut, when Roode promised to embarrass Roderick Strong one more time before challenging Drew and getting back his NXT Championship. He’ll walk into Smackdown Live and make it…GLORIOUS. With that, commentary hypes Ruby Riot taking on Peyton Royce coming up next!

– AD: Mae Young Classic –

Back from break, we see an update on Asuka who will return next week to update everyone on her future. Back at ringside, Peyton Royce is accompanied by Billie Kay as she makes her way to the ring for the opening match of the night. We go back to three weeks ago when Ruby Riot defeated Billie Kay, only to be verbally assaulted by Peyton Royce. Out next is Ruby Riot, who makes her way to the ring before this match is underway!

Peyton Royce vs. Ruby Riot

Dueling chants for both women as they lock up, and Peyton gets taken to the corner by Riot. They lock up again, and this time Riot is in the corner…only to take Peyton down with a headlock takedown. Peyton reverses with a head scissors, working the neck of Riot on the canvas before Ruby gets to her feet. Exchange of holds ends with an arm drag and a dropkick by Riot for a nearfall. Riot with an armbar on Peyton, who struggles to get out. Peyton back on her feet, hitting Riot with a forearm only for Riot to twist the arm even harder. Peyton gets Riot to the ropes to break the hold, hanging her up on the top rope before hitting a knee to the face. Peyton taunts Ruby as she continues the attack, the dueling chants continuing as Peyton taunts Ruby some more with forearms and a boot to the face. Ruby fights back, but Peyton takes her out of the ring by Kay as we go to break.

– AD: WWE 24: Women’s Evolution –

Back from break, Peyton is in control with a sleeper on Ruby who manages to reverse. Peyton stays on the attack as she taunts Ruby some more, but Ruby fights back with some hard right hands and some kicks leading to a dropkick. Peyton in the corner as Ruby drives the face of Peyton into the corner for a nearfall. Ruby climbs up top, but is cut off by Peyton as she looks for a superplex. Ruby blocks it, but is distracted by Kay allowing Peyton to hit a spinning heel kick to the head, before setting Ruby up on her shoulders for a fireman’s carry Death Valley Driver…but Ruby kicks out at two! Dueling chants continue as Peyton tries to whip Ruby to no avail. Ruby dodges a spinning heel kick to deliver a powerbomb on Peyton for a nearfall. Kay pulls Peyton out of the ring, but Ruby runs the ropes hitting a dive on both women! She brings Peyton back into the ring, but the ref is distracted as Kay hits a hard kick to the face of Ruby who is brought back in the ring by Peyton, who hits the fisherman suplex for the win!

Winner via pinfall: Peyton Royce

Kay and Peyton celebrate in the ring as we get replays from the match. Backstage, William Regal is asked about the attacks from earlier when Kassius Ohno walks in, saying he’s feeling better and ready to go. Regal agrees having seen the report from the trainer, and gives Ohno a rematch against Hideo Itami next week. Ohno says that after what Itami did last time, he has one request…make it a No DQ match. Regal allows it, a grateful Ohno thanking him as we see Roderick Strong in the back, gearing up for his main event match against Bobby Roode later tonight.

– VIDEO PACKAGE: Heavy Machinery –

– AD: WWE partners with the Greater Houston Community Foundation (http://ift.tt/2vDt844) –

Back from break, Heavy Machinery make their way to the ring for the next match. Already in the ring are their opponents, and this match is underway.

Tag Match
Heavy Machinery vs. Damien Aleel and Edwin Negraune

Otis takes Damien all the way to the corner, Damien stepping up onto the top to get leverage but gets taken down by Otis who tags in Tucker. They double team Damien before Tucker locks in a front face lock. Damien fights back just enough to tag Edwin in, and they both get taken out with a cross body by Knight! Stinger splashes on both men before a tag to Otis, and a Compactor gives Heavy Machinery the win!

Winners via pinfall: Heavy Machinery

They celebrate in the ring as we get replays from the match. Commentary talks about the actions of Lars Sullivan before we go back to last week, when Lars absolutely decimated No Way Jose. From there we go to earlier tonight, in the office of William Regal who scolds Lars for his actions before issuing a three on one handicap match. Lars just glares at Regal before walking off, and we see Bobby Roode getting ready for the main event against Roderick Strong. That match is coming up next!

Back from break, we see Roode and Strong making their way backstage to their entrances before commentary hypes Cezar Bononi taking on a newly-focused Andrade “Cien” Almas next week, as well as a No DQ match between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami! Back at ringside, Roderick Strong makes his way to the ring for our main event. With Strong in the ring, the lights cut out…

“GLORIOUS, NO I WON’T GIVE IN, I WON’T GIVE IN TILL I’M VICTORIOUS, AND I WILL DEFEND, I WILL DEFEND”

…and out walks Bobby Roode, the now former NXT Champion who made his Smackdown Live debut last week and looks to settle things once and for all with Roderick Strong here in NXT. Roode enters the ring, milking his entrance for every second he can get as the crowd chants “THANK YOU BOBBY”…the bell rings, and this main event is underway!

Main Event
Roderick Strong vs Bobby Roode

Roode taunts Strong, calling him a failure and saying this is still his NXT…and it is GLOR—Strong shoves him into the corner, telling him to bring it on. Roode charges at Strong, but is met with a double leg takedown that sends Roode down hard on the mat as Strong lays into him. Roode gets Strong in the corner now, driving his shoulder into the midsection of Strong before hitting a hard chop. Roode continues the attack until Strong goes for a backbreaker, only to be taken down by Roode with a takedown and a side headlock. Roddy struggles to his feet, turning things around with a dropkick and laying into Roode some more. Another chop in the corner, but Roode gets a back elbow to get some space. Roode tries a boot to the head but takes a backbreaker for his troubles. Roode on the ropes allows Strong to hit another backbreaker. Roode’s on the apron, but he blocks another attack by Strong…who gets shoved into the ring post by Roode! Strong catches Roode from the apron, but Roode blocks the backbreaker attempt only to take a boot to the head by Strong. Roode responds with a spine buster onto the floor as we go to break!

Back from break, Roode is in control as he hits a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Roode continues on the attack, hitting a backbreaker of his own to taunt Strong. Roode lifts him up again, hitting another backbreaker before going for the GLORIOUS pose. Strong takes advantage, hitting some offense before Roode stops him in his tracks. Roode has Strong down, but Strong is back up and hits a double knee gut buster on Roode. They exchange right hands before Roode goes to the corner, taking a flurry of offense from Strong who hits another backbreaker for a nearfall. Roode blocks a suplex, but takes a butterfly powerbomb before Strong locks in a Boston Crab. Roode grabs the ropes to break the hold, and dumps Strong outside the ring. Strong back in the ring, but Roode gets him on his shoulders for a TKO and a nearfall. Strong hits some back elbows but Roode gets another spine buster on Roddy. Roode sets up for the Glorious DDT, but Strong reverses into an Olympic Slam and another slam for a nearfall. Roode on the apron, catches Roderick on the top rope against Strong’s jaw. Roode getting back, climbing to the top only to be stopped by Strong who fights Roode before being dropped…but Strong hits an enziguri on the former NXT Champion, sending Roode down hard with a superplex…but Roode kicks out at two! They exchange blows, with Strong getting the upper hand before Roode hits a Glorious DDT! Roddy rolls closer to the ring as Roode covers him, but Strong gets his foot on the bottom rope. Roode picks him up, calling him an embarrassment to his family which riles Strong up! Strong takes a slap to the face but hits two high knee lifts to the face of Roode, followed by a third knee and a hard backbreaker! Strong picks Roode up, blowing him a kiss before hitting the End of Heartache for the win!

Winner via pinfall: Roderick Strong

Strong celebrates in the ring as we get a replay. Drew McIntyre comes out to the stage, raising his NXT title before Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly run out and beat the champ down! They take off before officials and Regal can stop them, and they say this is their era now…and everyone is on notice. Regal and the officials chase the three men down as the show comes to a close.

Sexy Star comments on Rosemary injury incident at TripleMania

The last word on the incident between Sexy Star and Rosemary at TripleMania XXV on Aug. 26, 2017, was that the latter has a strained triceps and biceps. The good news is the injury is less severe than initially believed.

It came about when Sexy Star didn’t let go of an armbar submission. The word going around was that it wasn’t a work, and Rosemary quickly confirmed that. The wrestling community threw its full support behind her, with some outright calling for Sexy Star to be blacklisted.

All the while, she was silent.

Until now.

From a TV appearance (via R De Rudo with the help of Google Translate):

“These days have been very difficult for me. On Saturday I had a championship fight; Was very hard. I think it all went out of hand. I do not know, it’s a situation that right now I’m a bit confused. I want to be silent and when I feel it is time, touch the subject. Men, women, they want to finish me; Retire from this sport. I’m here; As I said at the outset: I will not stop, on behalf of all women who have been mistreated, physically or psychologically. I think I have to be stronger. If at that moment I went through a depression and left, I will leave this one too. I was doing what I had to do, what people deserve, give me a claw until the end. That happened, I gave it up. It seems that the girl is injured; I do not know, I do not know. Is the only that I can say.”

Does that help make things better in your eyes, Cagesiders?

cSs Top Five: Storyline Injuries

The injury bug has been spreading its wings recently. Some big, some small, some with intention to maul, some on Joe, some that make a sad trombone. Let’s turn those frowns upside down by looking at the top five injuries used for storyline purposes, some of which are ridiculous in nature.

You may be asking what qualifies me to make a top five list for storyline injuries? I once banged my head falling asleep during story time. That’s about it. With that out of the way, let’s get this started.

5. The pulverized skull of Councilman Lawrence Delgado

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

A truly outrageous scene. If you’re not familiar with Lucha Underground, the show uses fantasy elements in their stories. The quick version of this event is that Cage is wearing a metal gauntlet glove which possesses the spirit of a god. The god has been slowly taking over Cage’s body.

On an introductory visit to the office of crooked Councilman Lawrence Delgado (played by Lorenzo Lamas of Reno Raines fame from Renegade), Cage lost his cool and punched him in the face. The result was bloody debris and meat chunks. You can observe Delgado’s lifeless corpse in the background as Cage squishes an eyeball upon exit.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

I’m not sure if death counts as an injury. But having your skull bashed to oblivion with a steel fist must have hurt before death, so I’m giving it a pass to be on the list. The shock factor is astounding. It is hard to believe such a scene exists in wrestling without seeing for yourself.

4. Exploding limousine

It takes a serious pair of grapefruits to roll with a storyline that Vince McMahon was blown up in a limousine. I don’t have words. What can be said? It’s crazy. It’s wild. It’s absurd. Those attributes make it fantastic.

Unfortunately, the storyline was cut short following tragic circumstances in real life.

3. “Cowboy” Bob Orton’s cast

After suffering a real life broken forearm, Bob Orton turned this predicament into one of the better cheating gimmicks of wrestling. He would use his hard cast to strike opponents in the head, often when the referee didn’t have eyes on the situation. As evidenced in the above video against the overlooked legend, Pedro Morales. Down they went and up rose Orton’s win total. He continued wearing the cast for a good year or so under the guise of doctor’s orders.

I can’t really be mad at Bob Orton. His scheme was ingenious. And you know what they say. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.

2. Baseball bat attack to Dusty Rhodes

The feud between Dusty Rhodes and the Four Horsemen leading up to Starrcade 1985 was full of craziness. Flair broke Rhodes’ ankle, which was the impetus for arguably the greatest promo ever, “Hard Times.” Tully Blanchard was the recipient of payback as Rhodes damaged Blanchard’s leg.

Later on was a wild ambush against The Dream. The Anderson goons pulled a thug move by chasing Dusty down to hand out an old fashioned beating. They tied Dusty up and tenderized him with a baseball bat. Luckily, boogie fever of the common man must have made his bones lithe and limber to escape serious injury. He didn’t miss action for very long, if at all on the house show circuit.

Footage of that incident is classic. A dramatic car chase highlighted by cackling narration. A gritty parking lot beatdown. Guttural grunts of agony. Best of all, it fanned the flames of a heated feud to keep the fire roaring.

1. Ricky Steamboat’s crushed larynx

Long before Hulk Hogan had lusty jealous eyes, Randy Savage had crazy eyes. Savage flew off the ax handle to set up a feud with Ricky Steamboat, who was draped over the guardrail on this occasion. Savage followed that up by using the ring bell for a top rope smash onto Steamboat’s throat with deadly accuracy. Steamboat’s recovery culminated with one of the best matches in wrestling history at Wrestlemania III.

All the stops were pulled out to sell this injury. Bruno Sammartino was so incensed at Savage’s poor sportsmanship that he exploded in rage to attack Savage. Steamboat had televised doctor visits stating the fear that another blow to the larynx could be fatal. Add Steamboat’s struggles in speech therapy and we have quite the tasty cake of storyline deliciousness.

How does this storyline injuries top five stack up to your list? Agree with the entrants? Were there any injuries that hit you right in the gut as a fan? Which injury made you laugh the loudest? Whether it be best five or favorite five, share yours in the comments.

If you missed them, here are previous cSs Top Five:

Maxel Hardy’s arm drag is better than yours

Talk about wrestling royalty. He’s just turned two years old, but King Maxel is already 2 – 0.

Now that his father doesn’t work for a promotion that will (allegedly) put family members on television without a contract any more, Matt and Reby Hardy’s eldest son doesn’t have any matches lined up. But that doesn’t mean he’s stopped training:

Pops is unsurprisingly bull-ish on his protégé’s prospects:

But while he might get there soon, but if he doesn’t change up the finisher, he might not have his dad and uncle’s longevity:

Emma On Getting More TV Time, Reveals Her Biggest Supporter, More

– WWE Superstar Emma recently spoke with Australian press while promoting WWE’s live event tour in Australia next month. Emma spoke with News Hub NZ last week about the tour; you can read a few highlights below:

Emma comments on how she got into wrestling:

“I fell in love with wrestling. I remember thinking that ‘there must be some way I can learn how to do this’ and I never snapped out of that mind-set. I found an independent wrestling school, learnt my trade and just went from there – now I’m here in the WWE.”

Emma reveals her biggest supporter in pursuing her wrestling career:

“My mum is one of my biggest supporters. She is the one who helped me break into wrestling and start training at such a young age even though she didn’t necessarily want me to.

I nagged here so much and she would come with me to training and keep an eye on me. Because of her support I kept training all the way through school and by the time I was 19 she knew I wasn’t snapping out of it – she knew it was the only thing I ever wanted to do. There were no questions asked. Wrestling was the only thing I was doing.”

Emma comments on how the #GiveEmmaAChance hashtag has helped get her more TV time since returning from injury:

“It has really worked for me recently because of my fans, the comments I had been getting from them made me react to it and you can see it’s really paid off in the last few weeks.

It’s about time too, the whole #GiveEmmaAChance thing is real. I mean when do I get my chance at the championship, I have never had that and it just goes to show how social media can help.”

Former WWE play-by-play man Jim Ross recently did a Q&A on his website — JRsBarBQ.com — where he talked about Asuka’s move to the WWE Main roster, and how WWE can give a boost to 205 Live.

First, 205 Live:

“The talents on 205 Live need to find more time on either RAW or SDLIve to expose their skills to more people in hopes that those viewers will follow these talents to the WWE Network for the broadcast.”

As previously noted, Asuka is heading up to the main roster as soon as she recovers from the broken collarbone she suffered at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. Some are worried about the ex-NXT Women’s Champion getting called up to the main roster, but Jim Ross is confident that she’ll do just fine.

Chris Jericho Says Conor McGregor In WWE Is A ‘No Brainer’

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Chris Jericho talked about the possibility of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor coming to WWE.

According to Jericho, McGregor to WWE is a “no brainer.”

“Conor comes out of [his fight with Floyd Mayweather] looking like 100 million bucks, and Floyd retires 50-0. So will Conor McGregor end up in WWE? I think it’s a no-brainer. It might not be this year or the year after that because there’s a lot of money that you got to spend to get him in there, but a guy that yappy that knows the concept of cutting a wrestling promo — same with Floyd.”

Jericho also thinks that we’ll see Ronda Rousey in WWE someday as well:

“That’s why Floyd did WWE, because he got a lot of his stuff from WWE ideas – so I think Conor will end up there. It’s just a matter of when he wants to. I also think Ronda Rousey will end up there one way or another as well.”

Reigns Reigns: ‘I Don’t Come Out There Smiling And Kissing Babies!’

– WWE Superstar Roman Reigns recently spoke with ESPN‘s Tim Fiorvanti on a wide variety of topics, check out the highlights below:

Reigns on being a babyface or heel:

“To me, I’m neither. If I’m totally off here then I’m totally off, but I’m the first of my type. I’m the first true gray area guy … Just being what he was born to be.”

On his character:

“I don’t go out there and act crazy and flail around and be a heel. I don’t come out there smiling and kissing babies, telling each town it’s my favorite town at the end of the night. I keep it real. Sometimes I’m in a good mood. Sometimes I’m in a bad one. I want my character to be as human as possible, but not just a regular human that you see every single day.”

“It’s just one of those things that helps me work with everybody. It’s not about, ‘Well we can’t tell this story because it’s two bad guys going against each other, or it’s two good guys.’ I can adjust to any way [we want to do it]. I can wrestle any way I want. Sometimes you fight pissed off. Sometimes you fight smart with technique. It just depends.”

Chris Jericho Says The Owens/Styles Finish At Battleground Was Botched

At last month’s Battleground show, Kevin Owens defeated AJ Styles to win the United States Championship, however, that wasn’t WWE’s plan.

Following the match, which had an extremely odd finish, we heard that the finish of the match was botched, and that Owens wasn’t actually supposed to win the United States Championship from Styles.

And during a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Chris Jericho confirmed that the Styles/Owens finish at Battleground was botched.

“The idea was for me to work with AJ on Tuesday, and do nothing with Kevin. And then the match happened on the Sunday and they legitimately screwed it up, it happens sometimes – the finish didn’t work… whatever happened.

“And then there’s all these stories… no, there was never [an emergency phone call from WWE] – I was just gonna be there to play Clint Bobski [during filming of the ‘second tape’ of Southpaw Regional Wrestling] and they’re like, well, put me on the show. That’s why they did the Triple Threat, because they had to get the belt back on AJ because of the screw-up on the weekend.”

Jerry Lawler Says Doctors Were Giving Ric Flair 20% Chance Of Surviving

WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler recently addressed the scary-looking situation surrounding fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair’s health during the latest episode of his “Dinner With The King” podcast.

According to Lawler, at one point, “The Nature Boy” was only being given a 20-percent chance of surviving. As “The King” explains, it was WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat who told him this news after visiting Flair in the hospital.

“Apparently it was really a touch and go situation,” said Lawler on the latest episode of his podcast. “They explained to him [Ricky Steamboat], and when ‘The Nature Boy’ had that first surgery, the doctors said that Ric had a 20-percent chance of survival of making it through that surgery,” said Lawler. “But we all know that he did pull through. And I heard yesterday, he’s already cutting promos on nurses.”

WWE SmackDown Live ratings (Aug. 29, 2017): Viewers down sharply after post-SummerSlam high

The Biggest Party Of The Summer is over, and after drawing its biggest audience in months for the SummerSlam fallout show last Tuesday, SmackDown lost almost a quarter million viewers on Aug. 29.

2,455,000 viewers watched an episode which featured a Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton vs. Rusev and Jinder Mahal main event, ninth best on the night among cable originals behind a bevy of political talk shows on Fox News and MSNBC, and The Have and the Have-Nots on OWN.

Their share of the 18 – 49 year old demographic was best on the night as usual, but dropped from last week’s .87 to a .76 this Tuesday.

Will Nakamura vs. Orton help win back some of that big audience? Until we find out, you can consider this rundown of the blue brand’s numbers this year:

Aug. 22 – 2.69 million
Aug. 15 – 2.53 million
Aug. 8 – 2.58 million

Latest Update On Injury Brings Good News For Xavier Woods

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

It looks like Xavier Woods received relatively good news when getting the latest update on his leg injury.

The New Day member appeared on SmackDown Live on Tuesday evening wearing a knee brace and using crutches to get around, all-the-while toting a sign that read, “It’s Sore,” as a result of the injury he suffered during a match at the WWE SmackDown Live house show on Monday night.

After undergoing an evaluation backstage at the SmackDown Live taping on Tuesday, Woods was informed that he suffered an MCL sprain. How soon he will be able to return will depend on the severity of the pain and inability to move around at the level needed to return to the ring.

Additionally, Woods posted a tweet during SmackDown Live confirming the news about the MCL sprain diagnosis, and confirming that he will still be appearing at Dragon Con as scheduled this coming weekend.

To view video footage of the spot that resulted in Woods getting injured from the SmackDown Live house show on Monday night, check out the video embedded above.

Former Star Reveals Incident With Sting In WCW

Former WWE Champion Sid Vicious recently did an interview with Hannibal TV about his time in WCW and working with WWE Hall Of Famers Sting, check out the highlights below:

On working with Sting:

“Sting was awesome man. He was – me and Sting talked one time and he said, ‘Sid, I’m not an idealist like you, but I work good with people who have good ideas.’ We had some really good matches, just one little incident one time.

“I think everybody remembers I used to do a nip-up spot. It was usually a head-scissors, and I’d nip-up and I’d catch the guy with a chokeslam or something like that. It’d always get a good reaction. It was in Jacksonville, Florida. I came back and there were some guys in the dressing room and they were pushing Sting to sort of say, ‘Hey, Sid is burying you.’ And I come in and Sting says, ‘Hey man, you’re burying me.’ And I said, ‘No, Steve, I’m not burying you. We do that spot all the time. What happened is you let these guys get in your ass and no they’re making you feel bad about that. So don’t let these guys get you beat up.’ Then they all heard that and they all changed their opinions.”

On taking the WCW Title off Sting at Halloween Havoc:

“This is the thing, I did for 30 seconds. I guess why it’s easy – a lot of bookers will say Sid’s a good guy to have working for me because I don’t ask questions. This is when they only do four pay-per-views a year, and I was told that Clash Of Champions, ‘You’re gonna be the next World Champion. In every interview you say you’re gonna be the next World Champion.’ Well that’s what I did for three months. When it came down to that night in Chicago in the UIC Pavilion Center, they said ‘Okay this is what’s gonna happen: You’re gonna get your heat, Steve’s gonna come back, stop him, get him through the ropes, he’s gonna come through the back door’… I think I might have put him through the back door, ‘And then you go back to the ring, he’s gonna come back to the ring holding his head, and then you roll him up 1 2 3.’ I said okay.

“We went through that whole thing, as he comes back it’s actually Barry Windham. I didn’t know what was going on so I rolled up up for the 1 2 3, he said ‘Don’t worry about it kid’ or something like that, so I rolled him up and didn’t think nothing about it. I didn’t know the rest of the finish. I think I was supposed to have won the belt, but I think Flair and a lot of people who gave so much sh*t about me being too young for the position – So the next thing I know the crowd is going crazy, the referee is in the ring grabbing the belt in my hand and said ‘Take the Stinger Splash.’

“I never knew anything about that part of the finish. But when I look back on it that was probably my most memorable match. I feel like when you can fool me, you had to fool the people. If it was just me, I enjoyed that, I don’t know if people understand that or not.”

Zack Sabre Jr. On Not Signing With WWE, His Crazy Travel Schedule

– Zack Sabre Jr. spoke with NJPW on a number of wrestling topics, check out the highlights below:

On not signing with the WWE:

“It would be like asking a musician, ‘Why didn’t you sign with the biggest record label?’ I’m just concerned with being the best professional wrestler I can be. …It was really just a personal choice. This is my path.”

On working the G1 Climax tournament and his travel schedule:

“When it comes to the G1, you’re talking about probably the highest quality tournament that I’ve been in. But for four or five years now, I’ve not had any time off. There have been some weeks where I’d wrestle in three countries, in that same week! I’ll have three international flights coming up next week, all within four days. So being in Japan for one month has almost been like a rest for me!”

On wrestlers portraying “Strong Style” improperly:

“New Japan’s origin is based on a real fundamental ‘Action Strong Style.’ A lot of foreign wrestlers try to copy Japanese wrestling, but I think they miss the point. The idea is that obviously ‘pro-wrestling’ is the strongest style. And I feel that foundation has to be in submission wrestling, and a very high level of ‘basic’ wrestling. Obviously now a lot of wrestlers are incredibly skilled athletes, but I think they’re forgetting their fundamental wrestling. Or they have no interest in it. My focus is on making very basic things look good.”

‘What’s The Tea?’ brings us an adorkable Charlotte and Becky reunion

I wasn’t as enamored by the first episode as my boss was, but it’s hard to not like anything besties Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch do. That’s especially true with the rough couple weeks Charlotte’s been through.

But Shootin’ Charlotte’s back on the road with WWE, and nobody’s happier about that than Ratings Rebecca!

Even a noted pun-hater like myself has to admit this is charming:

On this weeks episode of What’s the tea? @charlottewwe

PWI 500 2017: Kazuchika Okada is the first Japanese wrestler to land at number 1

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW)’s invasion of the North American wrestling market continues with the 2017 edition of the PWI 500 for 2017, as The Rainmaker, Kazuchika Okada becomes the first Japanese performer to be named number one.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated released its annual list of the 500 best in pro wrestling for this year. The evaluation period spans from July of last year to July of this year – and Okada held the IWGP Heavyweight championship throughout those twelve months, solidifying the case for putting him in the number one spot. In an interview accepting the honor, he told PWI-Online this signifies how far he’s taken NJPW:

“What this award signifies is that wrestling fans and media worldwide are thinking about what promotion and what wrestler deserves their attention, and the answer is Okada.

It’s an indication that finally the world at large is realizing just how great Japanese wrestlers and Japanese wrestling is, and that’s special.”

He also restated his intention to remain in Japan to continue growing the company:

“[Going to WWE is] not something I think about. New Japan is far superior to WWE when it comes to the quality of the roster and the quality of the matches. One thing I will say is that I do pay attention to what Finn Bálor, AJ [Styles], and [Shinsuke] Nakamura are doing, and they look like they’re having fun. I might want to wrestle them again someday, but I might want to do that in New Japan. Hell, I might want to be like some other people and become a movie star or join the UFC. You never know.

I want to continue spreading the NJPW name worldwide and to make Wrestle Kingdom (New Japan’s annual supershow) a global phenomenon.”

Current and former New Japan talent are prevalent throughout the Top Ten, along with the usual WWE Superstars:

  1. Kazuchika Okada
  2. A.J. Styles
  3. Kevin Owens
  4. Roman Reigns
  5. Kenny Omega
  6. Shinsuke Nakamura
  7. Dean Ambrose
  8. Samoa Joe
  9. Bobby Roode
  10. The Miz

– WWE has released the following exclusive video featuring Charlotte Flair giving a health update on her father Ric following Smackdown Live last night.

Check out her full comments below:

“It’s probably the hardest two weeks I have had. My Dad is a fighter. I want to thank everyone. He has nine lives. I want to thank everyone for the messages, the prayers, tweets and text messages. It really means a lot to me. It means a lot to my family. Most importantly I know my Dad would appreciate it. My Dad has a long road and basically he’s not going to be back next week strutting. The prayers and messages have helped and I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think he was ok. This is where I belong and I am glad to be back.”

Tonight’s WWE NXT Preview: Drew McIntyre’s Reign Begins

– WWE released the following preview tonight’s episode of NXT:

* Bobby Roode has unfinished business with Roderick Strong

* NXT Champion Drew McIntyre makes first appearance since TakeOver: Brooklyn III

On Bobby Roode taking on Roderick Strong:

Bobby Roode has had quite the last week-and-a-half. The now-former NXT Champion lost his title to Drew McIntyre at TakeOver: Brooklyn III after a grueling battle. Following the contest, Roderick Strong took the opportunity to add insult to injury by blowing The Glorious One a kiss and making him even more irate.

However, just a few days later, Roode brought his gloriousness to SmackDown LIVE, defeating Aiden English. Despite becoming a member of SmackDown LIVE’s roster, Roode made it clear after his blue-brand debut that he has unfinished business in NXT. That starts with a huge matchup against Strong tonight on NXT, in which Roode looks to gain revenge on his rival.

In addition, Roode declared that after he defeats Strong, he plans on getting his rematch against McIntyre. And, by the sound of it, The Glorious One seems intent on taking the NXT Title back with him to SmackDown LIVE. Will Roode make good on his plans for Strong and the NXT Championship?

Former Star On His Heat With Jim Cornette

– Today The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling welcomes a longtime respected and skilled wrestler as “White Lightning” Tim Horner joins the show. Wrestling in virtually every major territory and organization “White Lightning” relives some of the highlights and finer points in his career as well as address some of the comments made by Jim Cornette in relation to the ownership of Smoky Mountain Wrestling.

Story behind the heat with Jim Cornette and the sale of SMW’s tapes to WWE:

“We were supposedly partners. You know like a gentleman’s agreement, nobody had anything on paper which if I had to go back and do I would have done because I’ve heard that Cornette ended up selling all the tapes to Vince (McMahon) for a quarter of a million dollars or whatever it was. I don’t know that for sure, it is just here say. I certainly never got any of that and Sandy Scott never did either. But that is water under the bridge too. It was just differences of opinion and like they say; you never know somebody until you’ve lived with them or go into business with them.”

His days as a road agent for WWE in 2006:

“I am close with Arn Anderson and we’ve been friends for many years and I guess a little over thirty years and he is an agent up there (WWE) and I was in 2006 for an extended period up there. They’ve got one of the hardest jobs in wrestling today and that tis trying to keep the new talent in line and trying to groom them and teach them.”

“I had talked to John Laurentiis several times and he had contacted me and we conversed back and fourth and a couple times there wasn’t a position open but when WWE decided to do ECW and bring that brand under the wing, they decided they needed a couple more agents. Ted Dibiase and myself were the agents for ECW. I was still able to get in the ring with the young guys on TV days and on shows we’d go in early and get some ring time and I enjoyed that so it was a good time for me even though the ECW matches were a little different than the “norm” but it was a good time.”

Time working with CM Punk as an agent:

“I had several of his matches when he started and as you know the agents are responsible for the matches and each agent has a different match on the TV show. I had several of his there and he was a good guy then. He was coming in and it was new for him and nobody wanted to do bad or ruffle any feathers and everybody was just like “what do you want me to do” and I have nothing bad to say about CM Punk.”

A day in the life of a road agent and their role at TV:

“There is a producer’s meeting/production meeting everyday at TV and we’d sit in it and go over everything on the show. Who has the match, what they want to do and than you have to take that talent and sit them down and say here is what we want, here is what they want and here is what we’ve got to do and you are basically laying the match out for them. Of course you want their input as much because they aren’t going to learn if they don’t have any input. If I’m doing all the thinking for them, they just have to go out go through the motions. It is a lot different now than when I first started. There were times that we weren’t in the same locker room and when I stepped in the ring I met the guy for the first time and there was no chance to talk. I didn’t have three hours to go over a six minute match and it was just much different back then because we played off the people’s emotions because all we got was the finish and the rest was ad-libbed and we fed off the people’s emotions.”

“A lot of times the fans don’t get a chance to absorb what they are really doing because they’ve jumped right back up and are doing something else and are doing another nice move before the people really know what that move did or what happened. It is just totally different and it is all geared for TV and they are selling time so everything there is on a time schedule. It is just different. I had to bite my tongue a few times and it didn’t matter what I thought, it was what Vince wanted.”

His explosive tag team with Brad Armstrong “The Lightning Express”:

“He was a funny guy to begin with and everybody was so relaxed with him. There is nothing he could not do. As far as in the ring he was solid, everything was good and a lot of time back in the day where the heels usually led the match and if a heel would get lost Brad would step in and help put him back in line. Brad got an early jump with his Dad being in the business and having the book when Brad broke in the business in Atlanta and he and his Dad became the Georgia Championship tag champions and he just had a lot of notoriety and all the Armstrong guys (all the brothers) can work. From The Road Dog to Scotty, to Stevie were all good workers but Brad just had something a little special.”

“For us the timing was always off because we were always on the heels of the Rock N’ Roll Express. They were drawing money in Louisiana and came up to Charlotte and when you go in and are following them it is a hard act because they’ve got such a big push and were drawing because they were hot. Some of the tag teams wanted to work with us but the promoters didn’t give us that opportunity.”

Triple H On The Possibility Of ‘All Women’s Brand’

– Triple H recently sat down with Josh Barnett of USA Today’s For The Win on a wide variety of wrestling topics, check out the highlights:

Making the Mae Young Classic a Reality:

“Sometimes people think these tournaments just kinda take place, but it’s an unbelievable amount of work. One, to find the women; two, to find the ones who are good enough; and three, to make them all mean something when they’re all coming from different locations and it’s global. We need to make sure the right styles are there and then in the right matches to piece the whole thing together.”

Selecting the Participants:

“We thought we could probably do this with 16 women who were very elite and upper deck. As we started to dig and watch more footage, there were more women. I realized I can do this with 32 who are really solid and high quality. We picked the 32, and it was hard to make the decision of who should go in and who shouldn’t it.”

If it will lead to an all women’s brand:

“Never say never; you could end up there… We’re experimenting with a lot of different things as far as programming. But the women are a lot different. With the women, you hopefully have opportunities for a lot of these women to beef up the roster on RAW, Smackdown, NXT, and while it’s still a work in progress, we have the intention to be in the United Kingdom as well.

“We want the women to have the same opportunity as the men to be everywhere. You don’t need a separate show, as long as opportunities are everywhere. It makes it feel like less than for them.”

GFW issues statement on the Rosemary/Sexy Star incident from Triplemanía

One aspect of the incident from last Saturday’s Triplemanía XXV between Sexy Star and Rosemary which fans have been wondering about is how it might affect the relationship between each wrestler’s primary promotion, Global Force Wrestling (GFW) and AAA.

Today (Aug. 30), GFW issued a statement on the matter which reaffirms their commitment to working with AAA, and seconds Rosemary’s latest comments asking that the community focus on the positive developments from the pay-per-view (PPV) and with Global Force’s roster:

It was an honor for GFW to be invited to participate in Triplemanía XXV, held this past weekend in Mexico City. The AAA talent that we have worked with have been consummate professionals and the company organized and delivered an extraordinary event, in which both DJZ and Andrew Everett had spectacular showings following their recent surgeries.

While the incident with Sexy Star marred an outstanding show, AAA executives have confirmed to us that appropriate measures are being taken in respect of this incident. Both AAA and Sexy Star have apologized to Rosemary.

It is time to focus on the positives of the weekend (Triplemanía XXV outrated the other sports entertainment event on Saturday evening in Mexico; Eddie Edwards became the first gaijin to win the GHC Heavyweight title at NOAH) and look forward to building our relationship with AAA and NOAH to bring an ever improving wrestling product to our fans.

We still haven’t seen or heard a public apology from Sexy Star or AAA, and the fact we got comment from the injured party’s employer before one from the person who did the injuring is… interesting.

It does seem like all involved are ready to move forward, however, so this may be the end of it.

We’ll find out one way or another.

Rosemary also took to Twitter to reveal the damage, she suffered a strained tricep/bicep with swelling around the area and that time away from the ring should be minimal. She also thanked those who supported her and when wrestlers do make mistakes in the ring, they should own up to them.

Seth Rollins On If We Will See A Full Shield Reunion

– Sam Roberts interviewed WWE Superstar Seth Rollins Oon episode 148 of Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast and discussed the ongoing partial Shield reunion with himself and Dean Ambrose, check out the highlights below:.

On the crowd response to Shield reunion:

“The last couple of weeks and really this whole thing with Ambrose has gone extremely well and I think that’s just a testament to he and I, and The Shield, and the bond we sort of created with the audience over the past five or six years, stuff like that and we’ve been doing it, so it’s cool to see that everyone’s still emotionally invested in us as characters. And the fact that we are now on the same side, people are excited to see where we go moving forward.” Rollins joked, “keep me away from that world title picture right now! I’m having fun doing what I’m doing here. I think the fact that people are so emotionally invested in myself and Ambrose is really cool.”

On whether Reigns will be brought back to the group:

“He’s obviously doing just fine for himself. Yeah, he’s doing alright. Whether you love him or hate him, he’s doing alright. He [has] been in three WrestleManias in the main event now, which is… hey, say what you will about it, but it’s an impressive feat. There are not many men in the history of our industry who’ve been able to do that. So who knows? I mean, right now we’re happy with where we’re at and we’re in a good spot with me and Dean. If we do tell that story, we’ve got a long way to get there and if it happens, I’d welcome it. I’d welcome the possibility, but I’m really happy with the Ambrose situation right now and I don’t want to force anything.

WWE 205 Live Results (08/29) – Six Man Tag Main Event Headlines

– Results courtesy of WWE.com.

WWE 205 Live results, Aug. 29, 2017: Was Enzo Amore a team player in The Land of the Cruiserweights?

On the latest episode of WWE 205 Live, Enzo Amore teamed up with Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik in an effort to prove he can compete with some of the best the Cruiserweight division has to offer. Plus, The Brian Kendrick set out to prove himself right about Gentleman Jack Gallagher.

The Brian Kendrick def. Gentleman Jack Gallagher – No Disqualification Match

After spending a few weeks worried about an attack from Gentleman Jack Gallagher, The Brian Kendrick evened the psychological playing field with his aggressive nemesis one week ago. Prior to their slated Gentlemen’s Duel, Kendrick had a clown engage Gallagher and then used the distraction to launch an attack on his own. This week, The Man with a Plan looked to use a No Disqualification Match to prove to Gentleman Jack and the WWE Universe that he is the better competitor.

Both Gallagher and Kendrick made their way to the ring with laser sharp focus, but as Kendrick began screaming at his opponent after the opening bell, Gallagher remained stoic – refusing to let The Man with a Plan gain a psychological advantage. However, when Kendrick charged forward, Gallagher attacked, backing Kendrick into a corner before using his umbrella to drive The Man with a Plan from the ring.

Outside the ring, the two rivals battled among the WWE Universe, with Gallagher’s aggression giving him a clear and decisive advantage. The British Superstar methodically attacked Kendrick, using foreign objects and the environment in the arena to his advantage. Kendrick struggled to mount any offense until he struck with a Kendo stick as Gallagher prepared the announce table.

The Man with a Plan then took control of the bout, using the steel steps to stun his opponent before tying Gallagher up to the ring apron and attacking with the Kendo stick. The damage was done as Kendrick’s rage took over, forcing the official to check Gallagher’s condition.

After the official allowed Gallagher to continue, Kendrick drove Gallagher into the ring bell with a DDT before locking in The Captain’s Hook, using the Kendo stick as leverage and securing the win.

Rich Swann def. Ariya Daivari

Two weeks ago on WWE 205 Live, Rich Swann was distracted during his match with Ariya Daivari when TJP emerged with an apparent leg injury. The distraction was enough for The Persian Lion to claim victory, despite The Duke of Dab’s claims he did not intend for Swann to lose the match. Last week, TJP claimed that he suffered the leg injury during the last match between the two, citing that their rivalry had gone too far, ultimately encouraging Swann to focus on defeating Daivari this week.

As the match got underway, TJP joined Corey Graves and Vic Joseph on commentary, providing an update on his injured knee and noting that the rivalry between he and Swann is, for all intents and purposes, over. Despite both having a win against the other, The Duke of Dab made note that he was the victor of the war.

Inside the ring, Swann and Daivari battled back and forth, Swann using his incredible speed to equalize his opponent’s strength and aggressive tendencies. However, Daivari took control of the match by driving Swann face-first into the announce table. Tossing Swann back into the ring, The Persian Lion took TJP’s crutch and made his way back toward the ring.

In an effort to save his friend, The Duke of Dab grabbed the crutch, leading to a second staredown with Daivari. Refocusing his attention on the match, The Persian Lion bolted back into the ring but Swann rolled him up for the win.

Irate, Daivari charged at The Fil-Am Flash. However, when the pair made it back into the ring, TJP was suddenly without injury – to the surprise of Rich Swann and the WWE Universe. After leaving Daivari down, TJP tried to celebrate with Swann, who simply handed The Duke of Dab his crutch and left the ring both confused and suspicious. TJP then added insult to injury and nailed Daivari with The Detonation Kick, proving he was fully healed, if injured at all.

Enzo Amore, Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik def. Tony Nese, Drew Gulak & Noam Dar

Since announcing his presence on WWE 205 Live in front of WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville last week, Enzo Amore has been looking to make waves and shake up the entire Cruiserweight division. On Raw, he defeated Noam Dar, marking his first official victory as a Cruiserweight. Before teaming with Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik tonight, Enzo held an impromptu strategy session that appeared to make his tag team partners a bit cautiously optimistic about The Certified G’s plan.

Before the match got underway, Enzo made sure to show off his gift of gab to the delight of the WWE Universe, insulting his three opponents. The Realest Guy in the Room started the match against Drew Gulak, who wanted nothing more than to demonstrate his technical prowess against the loudmouthed Superstar.

Just as rivals Cedric Alexander and Tony Nese were tagged in, WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville was shown observing the battle from the locker room. Alexander used his incredible speed to his advantage, leaving Nese reeling before tagging Enzo back into the ring. The Premier Athlete then turned the tables and began to berate Enzo for joining the Cruiserweight division. However, Enzo quickly recovered and scored a near-fall before an all-out brawl between all six Superstars broke loose. Alexander and Metalik added an exclamation point with a synchronized high-risk move to the outside, but as Enzo prepared to follow suit, The Premier Athlete regained control.

Enzo struggled to regain an offensive advantage and was even mocked by Nese Cedric Alexander tagged himself back in. Despite a fast-paced assault from Alexander, Nese took advantage of a distraction from Dar, giving The Premier Athlete the advantage. As Enzo tried to get involved, he inadvertently distracted the referee, allowing The Scottish Supernova to unload on Alexander.

Battling through an offensive from Gulak, Alexander managed to tag in Gran Metalik who immediately put on a lucha libre clinic at the expense of Nese. Unfortunately for Metalik, Gulak pulled Nese away from a high-risk move. However, Alexander took down Gulak and Nese, allowing Metalik to make the tag to The Certified G.

Fired up, Enzo took down both Nese and Dar. After rolling The Scottish Supernova out of the ring, Enzo countered a pinfall from The Premier Athlete with one of his own – using the ropes as leverage – to pick up a hard-fought victory for his team.
